Indigo Traveller is a great channel who goes to less-travelled parts of the world to shed light on how people live in less fortunate parts of the world.

I love how he is able to cut through politics and other perspectives to show the human element of the situation of the people on the ground of the places he visits. It’s refreshing, and haunting, to see the day-to-day struggles of the people interviewed.

I wish that more media was cognizant of the individual struggles of those presented within his videos, and that they would talk about ways to assist the countries and people that are highlighted in Indigo Traveller’s travels.

Sorry, didn’t mean to shit on you, just the guy. Making a living off of “slum tourism” just rubs me the wrong way. Have a good one.

No, no you’re totally fine. I agree that “slum tourism” feels bad, and I agree that this video initially strikes as “slum tourism”, however watching additional videos of his I feel like this is less the case. I think that Indigo Traveller seeks to highlight the inequity present in the modern day, and while this is not something that is comfortable, it is something that should be addressed in a forum such as this one.

You brought up “slum tourism”, which I agree is not pleasant, and makes me feel gross to promote (as is the case in this video), however bringing attention to videos such as these can help people be aware of the struggles of others.

This awareness is not a panacea, but rather is the seed of an idea than can attempt to equalize the inequity present in other’s thinking.

I get you. It’s just the title that set me off, I guess. I understand that that’s how someone gets views, and it’s unfortunate. Good to see someone acknowledge that Mozambique exists though. Has he done one on Malawi and eSwatini too?

If you’ve ever watched one of his videos, you’ll see that his content is not really described as “slum tourism”.

I was born in India, I know what slums look like. Never dealt with slum tourists, but still. This doesn’t strike me as that

I’ve spent 10 months in India, over two trips. Absolute favorite and least favorite country, depending on how my stomach felt. What part are you from?

Tenali, Andhra Pradesh

Edit: also I 100% know what you mean about most favorite and least favorite country

Maybe you can sample some Hyderabad chicken Biryani one day. It’s really fucking tasty.

Altho Hyderabad isn’t technically part of Andhra Pradesh anymore. Long story, has to do with local politics…

Food is hella bomb regardless
