After his arrest, Johnston was indicted by a federal grand jury alongside four other Jan. 6 defendants; the government alleged that all five men took part in the battle at the lower west tunnel leading into the Capitol, where some of the worst rioter-on-law-enforcement violence took place on Jan. 6.

The FBI alleged that video footage showed Johnston “handing up a stolen U.S. Capitol police shield to other rioters” and that Johnston “participated with other rioters in a group assault” on the officers protecting the lower west tunnel.

Back when he first got fired from Bob’s Burgers I remember an anonymous comedian wrote about how after the Sarah Silverman program ended, Jay’s alcoholism got really bad. He felt that all of his friends were more successful than him and none of them were doing enough to help him get work. So he started hanging out with the next generation, partying all night with him. I think a lot of these comedians looked up to him because in comparison he was so successful and on the periphery of essentially all 90s and 2000s comedy legends.

He essentially was a straight Andy Dick. Crashing young people parties, getting black out drunk and couch surfing. Supposedly there were multiple occasions where he woke up to cocks sharpied on his forehead. Jay would always blame this on whatever partygoer wasn’t white, so they started writing “racist” on his forehead. Eventually he was no longer allowed at these parties and the comedy scene pretty much ruled him out entirely.

Since about 2007, every role he has had has been due to Jon Benjamin and Bob Odenkirk trying to help him get sober.

Supposedly he did get mostly sober, but as I can confirm from familial experience, violent drunks tend to turn to violent right wing rhetoric when they give up alcohol. I don’t know why. Maybe its too late and they just no longer have the Grey matter in their brains to bounce back to who they once were.

Let’s be real, Jay had talent, sure, but not enough to be in the industry. His whole career has been helping his more talented friends accomplish their dreams.

I also think Brody Stevens’ death was really traumatic for the whole alt comedy scene. I don’t know if Jay and Brody were ever that close, but I wonder if Jay was bitter how all of his friends always went to bat for Brody and his problems, always making sure he had employment and could pay his bills while essentially abandoning him.

What I don’t understand is, why are all of the racists alcoholic too? I’m not saying that if you’re an alcoholic, you’re racist. I’m saying that if you’re racist, you’re probably an alcoholic. Every video you see of people acting out their racism, they’re usually drunk. Maybe it just let’s it out?

Maybe it’s this part in what you said:

Jay’s alcoholism got really bad. He felt that all of his friends were more successful than him and none of them were doing enough to help him get work.

They’re bitter and jealous so they turn to alcohol?

I have often wondered the same exact thing. Every neo Nazi I have ever seen was a huge drunk and about 75% also appear to be on meth. I often wonder if the addiction or hatred came first.
