What’s wrong with suburbs? I mean it’s odd to me, but i would still prefer it over living in a dense city.
- uses more land
- longer commute
- more maintenance expenses
- normalises nuclear family
- invented by racists to recreate segregation through capitalism
- more dead children run over by cars
- children can’t learn independence because mum drives them everywhere
- subsidized by taxes on cities
- no third place
- grass monocultures destroy ecosystems
- particulate emissions from cars give children allergies and lung cancer
- isolated from your community

If you want to look into why, I think this is a good playlist going over why the american style suburbs are pretty bad.
There are more than two possibilities, plus you may not know if you’ve never lived there.
I’ve appreciated living in rural areas, suburban, and downtown areas for different parts of my life. Currently I’m suburban but not typical American suburb. As a town built out long before the automobile, we have a more concentrated town center and mixed use neighborhoods with lots of things in easy walking distance. I live in a single family rom on a street if similar but can walk to the town center with pretty much every grouped together. Or the elementary school is for the neighborhood and was a very easy walk when my kids were little. Similar to a park and playing fields, and a spray park. I have a short walk to a convenience store but usually prefer the longer walk to a full grocery. During COViD we started a tradition of walking to the center, grabbing a kebab and eating outside on the town Common.
