I know I’m not the only queer person who has struggled with substance abuse – it’s not uncommon in our community because of the chronic trauma so many of us do and have experience/d from our families, friends, and society at large.

I make art based on my experiences as a queer sober person and the joy it has brought to my life. If you want to take a look, it’s on Instagram and I also recently duplicated it to Pixelfed (federated photo-sharing community).

I’m working on a piece right now about alcohol companies rainbow-washing for pride. I think they are aware of the alcohol abuse in our community and it sucks. But it also is important to be represented in society, which is, at the moment, capitalism.

I welcome DMs from anyone who wants to talk about their drinking if they are worried it’s problematic, or just want to talk. I’ve been sober for over three years :)

Disclaimer: Many people, including queer people, are able to drink in a way that is not disordered or unhealthy for them. I don’t judge anyone who drinks!

Thank you so much for running a sober space at your pride! Crucial for so many people in a space that had so much booze. And thank you for offering to share my art :) I think I am trying to use it to tell myself what I need to hear, and I hope that resonates with other people.

Also, there is a fediverse stopdrinking! /c/stopdrinking@lemmy.world
