Geordi can see through the cards, and Data is a supercomputer. I guess its just a testament to how Godly of a Poker player Riker is that he could consistently clear that table. Poor Worf never stood a chance.

She mentions it in a later season and basically says “don’t worry, I don’t read you during our games” which was probably BS, because most Troi episodes revolve around her not being able to “turn off” her powers.

I think she has to concentrate to know who’s emotions she is receiving. Otherwise she can only tell that someone is bluffing.
