He’s stating the obvious. I already see more headlines about Israel and Gaza than Ukraine. Even the daily article with Ukraine updates was axxed and replaced with Israel+Gaza updates. The Ukraine war was in people’s minds for so long because it had a direct impact on prices (mostly food). Now that the prices are going down, Europe has built up a stock of weapons, and fighting might slow down in the winter, there needs to be another shiny conflict the world can feast upon and Hamas delivered it on a silver platter.
Just like climate change, until there’s something happening right at our door, we (people) won’t give two shits about what’s happening abroad.
Oh, the middle east situation already impacts gas prizes here (EU). With the Russian gas dropped from the market and dependance on LNG import, the closure of even 1 source (at the Israelian cost) is enough to drive the prizes up. (Hopefully temporarely)
However, Russians invasion in Ukraine is on the same continent, which poses a way bigger problem for NATO and EU. The middle east problems ‘just’ impact fossil fuel prizes, Russia is a direct issue for our safety.
