Female-fronted The Marvels is tracking to open in the $75 million to $80 million range in the latest test of box office superhero fatigue. It launches Nov. 10.
The 33rd installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a sequel to the 2019 Brie Larson-starrer Captain Marvel, which opened to $153.4 million in North America, not adjusted for inflation. Tracking for The Marvels varies widely depending upon the research firm; NRG has it at $72 million to $88 million, while The Quorum thinks $80 million to $90 million.
Just so you know, women can perfectly direct great superhero movies.
Wonder Woman was a great movie, loved it, and it was well received grossing 4x its budget.
She Hulk, meanwhile, was revolting.
…my point was far from “women can’t direct.” I don’t have any interest in marvel movies, period. I was talking about the effect it has on the “typical” fan base, which is their bread and butter. I was pointing out what the movie had going against in in terms of appeal to the people it needed to appeal to.
You know, I’m kind of typical fan base myself…
… My point was “please don’t throw the Ghostbusters 2016 card.”
