I was originally going to get a Dell Poweredge 1950 but I saw that those things are pretty old, so I have decided to get a Dell Poweredge R710 instead. The seller I am purchasing it is selling it for $70 USD but with no ram. I found some good ram for it which is $40 USD. Should I get this server? All I’m running is a file server and game server and do not care about noise.

R710 is e-waste. Try to get at least like a r730 with ddr4 ram. An r720 is still usable, but getting long in the tooth and only ddr3.

The R710 is a great solution if you find you’re not paying enough on your electric bill

Might be e-waste but still good for someone just starting, not everyone pays expensive electricity

It’s why I still have a plasma TV.

Yeah I think if you run something that uses lots of power is fine if its cold outside. You can turn of the heating and get heat from the server rack.
