Weā€™re trying not to do the ā€œ/sā€ thingy.

Why? Itā€™s useful for people who struggle to read the tone of replies, and letā€™s be honest, thatā€™s happened all of us at some point.

What I want to see die is the ridiculous swapping of letters for symbols in words like r@pe or su!cide. This is not TikTok or Instagram, your Reddit/lemmy posts are not monetised. You do not need to censor trigger or swear words.

Itā€™s messy and dumb. People should be able to figure it out through context. Even if they canā€™tā€¦ who cares. Makes zero difference if people donā€™t get it. This isnā€™t reddit. Youā€™re not collecting karma. Itā€™s irrelevant if you get down voted.

It takes a millisecond to add /s for context, and itā€™s helpful for a lot of people. It has nothing to do with karma or downvotes.

If you have to explain that something is sarcasm then itā€™s not sarcasm.

At that point you might as well just say what you want to say without encoding it in an additional tone or layer which requires extra thought on the part of the reader.
