They lost a shit-ton of the content that made them a popular platform over the last 10y, then they alienated their customers when they pivoted on plan sharing, then they cranked up prices repeatedly. But surely physical stores where they can sell merchandise will turn things around right? Right??

I’m curious to see just how much money they’re going to burn trying to make this a thing.

Netflix to Open Stores Where Fans Can Play, Shop and Eat in 2025

  • Its first permanent retail sites will be named ‘Netflix House’
  • Initial locations in US will be followed by global expansion

Netflix, Inc. plans to open new destinations where fans can immerse themselves in the worlds of their favorite TV shows, shop for clothing, eat themed food and maybe even try a Squid Game obstacle course.

Dubbed Netflix House, the venues will feature a mix of retail, dining and live experiences, according to Josh Simon, the company’s vice president of consumer products. The streaming TV pioneer plans to open the first two in the US in 2025 and then expand the concept around the world.

That’s the entire article. Barely two paragraphs.

Those are going to fail so hard.

Like, brutally fail.

Zero chance of success.

archive.ph is pretty good about grabbing paywalled content FYI. I usually shovel links like this through them.

Wait wait - I have an idea - wait, hear me out.

A store … where people could go … and they could scan a QR code for the TV show or movie they want to watch … then they can go home and watch it on their TV. And when they’re done watching it, they can go back to the store to “return” it.

Yeah, I have a strong feeling a lot of terrible decisions like these are made by rich kids who paid their way through school and whose family connections got them a job they shouldn’t be doing.
