I recently started playing Dyson sphere program on my PC again and I get that lovely feeling of being drawn into the game for hours. But since it’s a very mouse-centric game, I don’t want to play it on a steam deck. And because I sit at a desk all day for work, I’d rather lay down on the couch and use my deck instead.

Are there any games like DSP that work well with a controller? I find that if I use the trackpad too much, my right wrist starts to hurt.

I think the Factorio devs are working on steam deck support.

They actually released it recently, there are controller bindings in the settings and you can play with a controller

I’ve played Factorio with the Steam controller some 3 years ago. It worked just fine, so I imagine the steam deck will too.

The controller support is likely targeted more towards playstation/Xbox controllers, or perhaps for a smoother experience if you dislike touch-as-mouse.

fair enough, still worth mentioning that factorio itself supports controllers now 👍

I’ve been waiting for Satisfactory to add controller support. The game runs fine and the number of buttons it uses is fairly limited; but alas, no proper support yet.

I haven’t tried Minecraft with one of the industrial/ultimate packs yet; but that typically requires java edition, which needs an extra mod for controller support.

You can just use steaminput, it’s much better than any of the control mods in my opinion.

I play vanilla java MC 1.20.1 on Steam Deck, no big problems with controller support (at least with prism launcher) Just the default keybinds are a bit shit, and there is no prev/next-item-key so you have to awkwardly scroll trough with the touchpads which is a bit meh during combat.

But I guess with a bit practice it’s totally playable (I recommend peaceful to get used to the settings, tho)

  • Nova Lands just came out and has native controller support. Works very well, even if it’s somewhat simplistic.
  • Factorio just released controller support which works well most of the time but it’s kinda fiddly.

Also, beware that DSP does not support cloud saves because the devs can’t compress their save data enough to fit in the Steam cloud requirements.

Nova Lands vouch, very good.

DSP is a game I would love in the Deck. I can imagine it would be difficult to manipulate. I thought about trying to use the Gyro to aid movement in some way but never tried.

I did spend around 4 hours overall on Shapez

Local saves only from the non Steam version though.
