I would like to post photos on a site that is accessible to others but that is A) somewhat respectful of personal information (i.e. nothing owned by Facebook); and B) is not too silly looking (Imgur). Is there any good option, or is Flickr still worthwhile? I don’t mind if the site charges a reasonable fee. Thank you.
Flickr used to be good. I have tons of photo there. But since March this year, I cannot upload photos via the Web interface on my PC where I do all my editing. Neither does the Flickr uploader program work. I have to transfer my photos to Android phone and then upload from there. I am not the only one suffering from this upload issue. There are plenty of complaints in the Flickr group. Flickr Web interface is broken and slow to refresh. The sad thing is that Flickr do nothing about it. Think twice before you put your photos there.
Beyond the reasons you listed, it’s also been helpful as a tool for gear research. There are other tools for finding images taken with a certain lens or body but it is a useful alternative.
I still think Flickr is one of the best options out there for photos. It’s still a favorite of mine, even with the fee. I think it looks great, and it’s a photo centric site.
Did everyone abandon it? kind of, but not really. The hardcore audience is still around I think.
I use it not as a social media (kind of dead in that aspect imo), but as a backup of my photos I can reach from anywhere should I need, and to show galeries to relevant people, like, I send my photos I took on a trip to my friends that were there, or to the model on a TFP shoot.
It is a decent option to store, share and let download jpeg’s in an unlimited storage for a decent price.
It’s the best out there, right now, as far as I’m concerned.
