What are you currently working on? Any Christmas presents for someone else or yourself? Or are you planning your next projects?

Currently I’m working on 4 projects (all for myself):

  1. The “Lattice Love Beanie” by hear hook home with a gorgeous yarn I found at a yarn fair. It’s so soft and I love how it works up. I’m just afraid that I don’t have enough yarn.

  2. The Rancher Shawl by TL Yarncrafts. Also with yarn I you at a fair, and I’m finally making some progress on it. It’s probably going to be the project I’ll take with me to entertain me during Christmas travels.

  3. Moroccan Tea Blanket. I love the shawls, and I now I now started this blanket. It’s probably going to be my 2024 project.

  4. Socks. I am so over knitting this pair of socks. I want to be a sock knitter, but I’m not. Working 9 months now on this pair, and my 2nd sock is about 1/4 done…

Around this time last year I crocheted myself a Shanti Pocket Shawl by Deni Sharpe and as you can see, it is heckin’ cozy!

Problem is, I’ve never worn it because I never got round to finishing the twisted tassels, they’re maybe about a quarter done and have stayed that way for a whole year.

So my goal is basically to finish that, and then gift this shawl to my grandma for Christmas because she gets much more use out of things like this than I ever will. If I end up regretting giving it away, well, can always make another one!

Normally I’d have a long list of craft projects at this time of year but I’m recovering from covid and everything is just way too much effort. Knitting some socks though (it’s sock month over on !knitting@lemmy.world but it’s always sock month in my heart), and cross stitching Errol the swamp dragon from Discworld. So that’s enough to keep me occupied without adding time-pressured gifts into the mix!

I think she’s my fave crochet designer honestly, so many cozy patterns that are really simple and quick to make. I made the Lorelei Cardigan too and have worn it to absolute death.

Sorry not sorry for the enabling :D

Nooooo why have you shown me this!! So cute and exactly my style; now I have to deep dive all their patterns as well 🙃

You absolute enabler lmao.

Edit: okay this top is absolutely adorable. This will be a perfect maternity pattern too, if I just extend the waist-to-bottom-hem part of the pattern

I wanna try making socks, but they intimidate me so badly! Some people swear they’re not that bad, but idk…

For now I’m working on this Yule Throw (but I’m using Lion brand wool ease in forested heather or some such instead) as a gift to my brother and sister in law, and after that I’ll be back to crocheting a sunburst granny-square blanket for my first born that’s on the way :)

Oooh this is so cute! That’s going to be such a nice Christmas present!

How exciting! I’m sure it’s a great way to make some Memories for you and your first born. How far along are you?

The thing about socks is that 75% of the way I hate making them, but that last quarter is satisfying and I also think it’s not that bad, so I make another one. And then the circle begins again…

I am 16 weeks along, thank you for asking! I definitely understand that cycle, I think that’s how I’ve gotten so many projects in my unfinished pile right now lol. The struggle is real

A bit over half a dozen scarves for my nieces and nephews and a few friends. Should be done in a few weeks. Most are almost done and need frills. I got two already done, one for my wife and one for my mother in law. I’ll post my wife’s here pretty soon. I just joined here’s realizing we do have a crochet sublemmy! Or what do we call this now?

They’re “communities” here :)

I’ll do that. I mean, fucking anything other than supporting any sense of anything reddit.

So just, Lemmy “X” Community? Stills that’s two extra words. We can come up with some single word altering addition that ain’t like reddit somehow.

Well “Lemmy X community” wouldn’t necessarily make sense since there could be multiple communities for a given topic, I generally just refer to them by their full address if I’m talking to someone actually on the Fediverse (ie “did you see that thread about December projects on !crochet@lemmy.ca?”) and would tend to just refer to it as “crochet Lemmy” to non-users since they haven’t got a clue what I’m on about anyway 😅

But it’s what they’ve been called since the start afaik, if you look at the top menu of your home instance in the browser you’ll see they’re “communities” there.

So far I think sublemmy is the only thing that’s stuck, haha. Some people don’t like it, but 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don’t like it cuz of where it comes from but idk wtf to say, so…

Yeah, I’m in the same boat. It’s just hard when everyone’s used the same terminology for so long; it’s hard to come up with a new one that rolls off the tongue, and that everyone agrees to haha.

Did you post a pic in your comment?? I can’t see it for whatever reason, but I bet the scarf is wonderful :)

Edit: I see it now in a separate comment! That looks so fun, I love the colors!!

Still working on my V stitch sweater vest, but I finally completed the first project I ever started, a slip stitch beanie (didnt even know the name of the stitch when I started it 😅) Also made a baby beanie for my niece as well as 2 cowels for my partner and I. Will probably make a post with them in this sub sometime soon since we need more content here. This is such a fun hobby, cant wait to get the yarn for my temperature blanket for 2023 in a few weeks!!!
