And you could ask for a spoiler free review of an old movie or series or questions about it . Here eveeything like that gets downvoated to hell , doesn’t exist or doesn’t get much reach . I do wish we could intime have things like that .
TV shows don’t end anymore - they just don’t get renewed.
Another reason why the episodic format is superior to serialization. At least you’re not left hangin’ when it’s cancelled mid-season.
I reckon the best shows are the ones that are largely episodic with a serialised overarching story. Where you can pick up pretty much any episode and be cool with it, but where watching it all in order provides the best experience and it has a satisfying definitive conclusion.
The thing I miss about reddit are the subs like r/askhistorians and other strictly moderated subs that vetted comment information and regular poster credentials.
I rarely found insightful comments on Reddit. Good movie reviews are usually hard to find. Especially if you’re looking for someone who at least gives a second thought to critical theory. I’ve run into thoughtful people here.
You’re better off looking for as book club or something like that if you want engaging discussions. A lot of local community colleges are cheap and have courses for cinema or lit. Or, start that community here. There are some instances that don’t even allow down votes, if you’re looking for a positive experience. Don’t let that last point derail, though.
Otherwise, maybe the broader thing you’re talking about is the mono culture. The mono culture was gone long before Reddit shit the bed. There were no more tv shows that everyone watched then talked about around the water cooler. It’s crazy to think about, but people were actually nuts about who shot jr. Like everyone wanted to know. It would be like your grandma knowing who mrbeast is and having an opinion about his shit ghost burgers and the drama around him trying to undercut franchises so he could get the rights back, or something.
Anyway, an active reddit community gave that feeling back. It was a nice warm hug when it worked. I can sympathize with the loss of that feeling. I’ll add to what others have said here about rebuilding. Not only will we get back to that place, but it’ll be better because there won’t be some corporation owning everything with different goals.

Not the person you responded to, but I can try to offer some suggestions. At a glance I take it the community you’re talking about is Invincible, but I don’t see any posts where you’ve tried to direct people to the community.
I’d recommend posting to !newcommunities@lemmy.world, despite it not being new anymore, and !communitypromo@lemmy.ca. So far as I can tell, these seem to be two of the larger and relatively more active communities for this.
I’d also suggest subscribing to !asklemmy@lemmy.world and !asklemmy@lemmy.ml to keep an eye out for if/when people ask about shows people are enjoying or even just outright for communities for [insert show]. For the latter especially I’d also suggest subscribing to !lemmy411@lemmy.ca, which while not as active is where occasionally you’ll see people explicitly looking for communities, giving you a great opportunity to point them to your community if it’s relevant.
Beyond this, maybe cross-post some of the threads to relevant and/or broader communities, so say cross-post some of your Invincible threads (after a bit of time, so as to not seem spammy, some people browsing can be really picky about this) to other communities. For instance you might cross-post some of these to !casualconversation@lemmy.world or !general@lemmy.world or other instances’ general discussion/chat communities if they don’t have a tv/show community to cross-post to, supposing that it’s okay by their rules.
I’d recommend adjusting them a little to better fit the vibes of the relevant communities you’re cross-posting to for better reception btw, so it doesn’t feel like you’re just tossing stuff at’em. Altogether it’s admittedly a lot, but I don’t think anyone’s ever said community building is a little. Best of luck!
Can we talk about how bad season 4 of True Detective is?
I personally like that this season is leaning more into the supernatural, and have so enjoyed it far more than Seasons 2 & 3. It doesn’t have that visual flair of the first season though sadly, the constant night is something I suspect was more evocative and claustrophobic in the script than on the screen.
If you’re wanting everyone to agree with how bad something is, that’s another way people want this place to be like Reddit, I guess. 4000 comments, only one acceptable opinion.
I’ve heard rumblings of dissatisfaction with the show, but it’s not a rabbit hole I’m keen to go down. Since there’s not much else on at minute, it’s tricky to distinguish genuine criticism from the opportunism of dunking on something popular for the algorithm boost.
It’s clear from its title that it’s as much its own show set in the TD universe as it a genuinely new season. It hints at some overlap - Rust’s dad, the Tuttle foundation, places out of time and ancient evils - but it’s equally invested in the legacy of Clarice Starling and it’s own spooky weirdness.
Episode 3 hinted at development problems - the kind of plot intricacies that every show struggles with, and is dependent on how invested viewers are as to whether they forgive them or not. But nothing so far that suggests it warrants a pile-on of negativity.
