Imgur doesn’t seem to integrate well into the Lemmy architecture, what’s the current “best practice” for posting GIFs and/or small mp4s like we used to have on v.reddit.com that looks good and plays well with expandos, etc.?

I’m wondering the same thing. Just adding the gif directly to a post doesn’t work with the expando, though it does work if the reader clicks through to just thr gif. When I post on lemmynsfw, redgifs works with the expando but the gif only plays once instead of looping. Playing once is fine for longer gifs but for short gifs it would be better if it looped endlessly IMO.

For videos, I upload it to Image Chest and use image tags to embed the direct mp4 link. Never fails, although I’m bothered by the video being blown up to fit the width of the comment space.

As for gifs, I use *.apng to get it to show up since IMGur tend to be inconsistent, particularly when the file is large or has too many frames.
