The worst option was funding Israel and not Ukraine, but Israel can genocide Palestine just fine without any more American aid.

The only way to change that reality is to force a regime change or invade.

They don’t need the money no, although we did for some fuckin reason just give them an amount of money equal to about their total yearly defense budget.

However, they desperately need the diplomatic cover we give them on the world stage. The western world is well capable to make life miserable via sanctions for any country that isn’t playing ball to what we want them to do (Russia, Iran, North Korea, etc), to say nothing of getting hauled to the Hague to stand trial. Without the US shielding them from diplomatic consequences I think the theoretical ability to do their killing in a physical sense wouldn’t be something they felt nearly as free with.

As a small silver lining, about a third of the Israeli aid package was humanitarian aid for Gaza.

Actually, no. I don’t hope we meet again. I want that bunch of clowns be replaced by normal functioning human beings, with differing ideologies but willing to work for the wellness of the country.

Two things: I bet this just saved Johnson’s bacon. Democrats will likely reward him by not voting against him when MTG raises the vacate vote. I’ll also bet that this only happened because Trump didn’t back Johnson even after he went and kissed the ring.

I think Johnson got into briefing rooms with the white house, the CIA, and the Joint Chiefs, and realized that the maga games have the potential to spiral into world war 3. Death and destruction beyond anything humanity has ever seen.

And he started figuring out how to givern like an adult. McCarthy had already burned too many bridges with Dems. They hated him. Johnson was a fresh face and Dems were desperate for someone they could cut deals with.

Remember a couple years ago when we gave Ukraine tons of shit immediately and for a split second it felt okay to be an American?

“I don’t need a ride, I need ammo.” Was perhaps the wisest thing to say to the American people.

I wonder if they have the votes for cloture on the inevitable filibuster.

I don’t believe that’s a problem. Remember, they already passed a bipartisan iteration of these bills. Rand Paul has promised to slow it down, but they’ll run him over if they have to.
