I was about to buy the game, but past experiences thought me to be patient with new games. Another instance where patience is key.

There’s literally no good reason to not wait at least a year for every game. I wait a lot longer and get it on sale.

I was waiting to buy it when it went on sale.

The problem now will be it will go on sale way earlier to try balance this negative review dump.

So I might be out of the loop. But I was curious to buy this game. So I wonder, what is the actual ‘official’ reason/benefit of linking to PSN? And would this introduce another launcher on PC? That would be a no go then as a launcher is usually the first thing that fucks up on proton/remote play. Although I assume there already is a launcher…

Doesn’t include a launcher you just link your account, that said I personally refuse purely on moral grounds. People in many countries cannot play because PSN straight up doesn’t support their country.

Also their reasons are lies, I am tired of being lied to and told it’s not a big deal. Sure signing up for a Psn is easy and free, but I am tired of being forced to do things as a consumer that I’m told is for my benefit when in reality it is solely for the publisher.

The official reason they want it is because supposedly it helps them ban problematic players, which I don’t understand the need for in this game in the first place. Secondly they can already do this through steam. Look up discord screenshots from the Arrowhead community manager by the Discord name spitz. You’ll see company responses, I’m too lazy to add them today.

Here is the real reason sony wants this. Tech companies use account metrics for shareholder presentation to show growth. “Sony added 330 million new PSN accounts in 2024 alone, and had 6 billion more transactions on the PlayStation network in 2024” this is a fictional example of how they can spin this crap. Dipshit investors aren’t going to understand the underlying reason why this spike happened and Sony will elaborate as little as possible. This could lead to massive growth in sony stock, at the very least it looks good. This is the only real reason sony is so interested, it has nothing to do with security or moderation and everything to do with internal growth metrics of corpo pigs. That’s my take at least.

The ‘official’ reason, as I recall reading it, is increasing security for players. Link to the announcement.

Personally I think that’s a load of hooey.

FWIW this won’t involve a new launcher, to my knowledge.

Ah yes, the Sony ‘security’. Too bad then. I still remember the rootkits they installed with music cd’s. I’ve yet to buy anything Sony since then… Guess I’ll continue doing that.

Thanks for the clarification.

There’s no reason, since the game worked fine for so long. They say it’s for security and thst they can’t ban specific people because steam has duplicate nicknames. Which is bullshit, since steam had steamid and other identifiers that let you identify the specific account.

It’s just corporate greed to 1. show shareholders there is a ton of psn accounts and that the console is doing fine 2. Sell that data to someone.

Unfortunately they already have your money.

I was on vacation and planning to buy it when I got back and encourage all my ex LOL friends to join too, but…

Thank you for your service.

Steam is currently granting refunds regardless of play time. Open a support ticket (the automated system is still subject to the default rules).

Sounds like Steam may be allowing refunds for this. Worth a try

I’ve heard that

A) you have to trigger a manual review (your first attempt will be denied by a bot, second refund request is usually manually reviewed). So you have to request a refund at least twice.

B) get lucky, because not everyone seems to be getting refunds.

It may be a regional thing (giving refunds to people who live in areas where PSN isn’t available), or it could just be pure luck.

Same. I was getting bored and tired of the balance patch > bug cycle. Figured I’d put it down till probably the illuminate arrival. Now I guess I won’t get the experience of being the only diver fighting the squids like in the first game. Shame, but I got my money’s worth.

Can someone explain why the Kentucky fried fuck they would do this? How does it benefit anything? Interoperability or just data farming? Seriously disappointed was just about to buy this on steam.

They claim it’s so that Sony can handle banning players. In reality it’s a split between data farming and an attempt to get people into the playstation ecosystem.

It’s really too bad Arrowhead went with Sony as a publisher.

The irony is that the game trained the playerbase to work well together to accomplish missions and now that solidarity is being turned against them.
