Rammy.site has been overrun by bigots from exploding-heads they are posting transphobic content accusing LGBT people of being groomers and also posting climate denial. They’re likely posting here because it is a small instance with an Admin who is currently MIA and/or not moderating the instance. For this reason it is imperative that it be defederated to stop these bigots from using it to spread their hate to other instances.
I’m so fucking sick of moronic bigots. Defederate and let them fling their shit at each other in a void.

What about the innocent users on the instance? I think there should be a more measured approach to defederation, looking at the bigger picture and what it actually achieves.
Defederating won’t stop them posting it just means you won’t see it. They’ll then be even more effective at spreading their message as they claim they are being silenced.
Many people are proposing a council that any instance would have to be a member of. If they break the rules (eg not moderating the instance) then the council has the power to migrate innocent users.
I respectfully disagree, Innocent users can simply make accounts on other instances. They’re people, they can make their own decisions on what communities to partake in. If they’re continuing to enjoy the community as it turns into a giant shit hole, how innocent can they really be?
If the admins in charge of the instance aren’t controlling it, then defederation is an appropriate response. This is one of the key benefits of the fediverse, after all.
And yes, defederating won’t stop the bigots from posting there, and they’ll be correct in claiming they’re being “silenced,” because that’s the point. Our goal is to remove their words from other instances that don’t want to hear it. This makes them less effective because less people will see their messages.
Sure, a council would be nice, but that’s just extra centralization and beauracracy. It’s only as effective as the people involved can make it.
They can make accounts but Mastodon/Lemmy etc doesn’t offer complete migration yet. So they’ll be losing their posts (and some followers as that doesn’t work fully at the moment).
What about the innocent users on this instance? I chose this instance because its a home for piracy and anarchism. The explictly anti-hate code of conduct is why I’m here. But what good is the DBZer0 code if exploding heads fash can jump to a neglected instance and polute our timelines with all their garbage?

I’ve raised this with the other admins to discuss our federation status with that instance. Having had a look around, I’ll be advocating for defederation. If the instance admin turns things around then we can always refederate later on. Personally, I don’t want to see alt-right posts, it’s depressing and counterproductive to engage with them. Let them scream into the wind where nobody can hear them.
Updated: We are now defederated with that instance. I’ll be happy to revisit the decision if their admin cleans it up.
The flaw in that argument is that not everyone on the instance is a weed. Especially in the case where a new users join. So your not helping the good stuff grow. You are cutting it back along with the weeds.

They’re not being taken out and shot, they’re being defederated.
If there’s poor little innocent users on there, they can either jump ship to a server that isn’t spewing far-right propaganda in the search of someone damaged enough to swallow it or they can wrestle their beloved server back from fascists and ask to be refederated.
The amount of people advocating for the worst people the internet has to offer is surreal. If they’re not mask-on, they’re an abusive partners dream.

I would think it follows that if I joined an instance supportive of a certain stance, and some other instance defederates because of that stance, maybe I didn’t agree much with that other instance anyway. It takes a certain kind of person to get upset when they lose the ability to push their views onto others regardless of consent, and I don’t want to be that kind of person
On an instance that is full of far right shit there is no innocent user. Else they would not be on that instance
According to the OP the far right has just joined because the admin went MIA. There will have been regular users who joined before the far right took over.
