Historically, Futurama dealt with gender and specifically trans issues quite poorly.Hopefully they have improved for this new season.
Originally I was annoyed at the display of
But I decided later to take it as Zapp growing as a person, having learned he can develop feelings for “men” - even though it was just Leela, and in a confused sort of way opened up to dating trans-women. And he is legitimately confused about the surprise, knowing full well this is a trans-women - and not the harmful joke about her still having her body’s birth genitalia.
But yeah, hopefully they do a little better with this season on that front and I don’t have to rely on home brewed explanations anymore.
Yeah between that and sexlexia, They could probably treat the whole situation better.
Why would it return? It ended perfectly
It ended perfectly. Then it ended poorly. Then it ended just OK. Then it ended perfectly again!
I suspect we’re all going to love it to death while watching it. Then we’re all going to get together and talk about the little things we didn’t like and why it wasn’t as good as the original set, get each other all worked up about the inadequacies, lament and watch the old seasons and eventually come to grips that all we have is all we have, we’ll watch the new episodes a few more times and fall in love with them too.
I wouldn’t mind an anthology.
Nah I’m just a sheep. I look back because I have a neck. Don’t follow in my path, be a shark.
There’s a new season?
Yup, new season starts on Hulu in July https://www.engadget.com/futurama-returns-july-24th-as-a-hulu-original-after-a-10-year-hiatus-203316031.html
Judging by episode names they are hitting some current (ish) topics. whether they can do them well without it coming off as forced or too on-the-nose is yet to be seen.
I kinda want to see a return to the adventures and stories, not the social and political commentary they tried a few times and were a bit hit-and-miss…
