They are making a joke equating real life romance to video games. The “current meta” refers to whatever class build/equipment load out is most powerful in the current version of the game.
Or whatever people think is the most powerful, at least. It’s worth noting that the meta can often be wrong, and if you play what you enjoy, you might find yourself discovering something stronger.
