We’re expecting our first in a little over two months so I’m getting a bunch of qualified well wishes, and wanted to wish you all a great day as well! What are you doing today to celebrate?

Congrats, dude. It’s a fucking wild, exhausting ride, but I wouldn’t change a thing. The hardest part, by far, is finding time for your own interests.

Remember: the standard is that you show up, and you try to be a good parent. Anything over that is icing on the cake. You don’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. If you’re there for your kids, and you’re trying, you are fucking killing it and don’t let anyone say anything otherwise

💕 thanks friend! Every interaction with you convinces me that you are an awesome parent & person and I hope you’re having a great day.

Luckily my interests are the nursery, ecosystem work on our property, and documenting, and I can be a SAHD and involve her in a lot of that.

That’s a great setup by the sounds of it. I’m a remote worker, so I can be dad-on-demand if needed, but I do have to focus on actual work most of the time, so my kids are in school/child care.

I try hard to be a decent human; I’ve had the misfortune of dealing with a lot of shitty individuals in my younger years. They served as good inspiration, I suppose. I’m fortunate that only the caustic sense of humour from that cohort has seemed to rub off on me, and nothing else.

My day is going quite well, too. Thanks for asking. Hope yours is going great.

I think yours sounds like a good setup as well; I’m sure there will be a point where I’m thinking “I can’t wait till you start school”

I try to be a decent human

All of this sounds very familiar and I will say I’m a fan of the work you’ve done that’s led to who you are. Seriously, I’m glad to have met such a rock solid individual

Congratulations!

I’m the Mom, but I - er - the kid got Dad a personalized book to celebrate the fact that it is a first father’s day and then Dad and kid went to the local children’s science museum to explore together and make memories. I’m with kid nearly 24/7 so having dedicated dad-and-kid time is rare and a rare gift indeed. Thanks capitalism for that set of circumstances.
