Rightfully so.

Lemmy servers are hosted by just some people that often don’t even accept donations, shoulder the entire legal liability and are sys admin all together by themselves.

And then there is the clownshow reddit being a gigantic company and not even able to not be a gigantic shitshow.

I’m actually seeing more and more .world users getting pissed as the downtimes become more frequent now.

I mean that is the problem of too many people being on that one instance.

From what I understand, capacity isn’t the issue, it’s that they’re being repeatedly DDoS’ed

It’s a chicken and egg problem, their high popularity makes them a ddos target

Technically, a DDoS can happen naturally if enough people are trying to use it at the same time. I’ve seen it happen to other, larger websites before. And lemmy.world definitely doesn’t have the infrastructure of some of those larger websites.

I really blame Sync for defaulting to lemmy.world, imo lemmy.world should close to new registrations, at least while they’re figuring things out.

Careful, you might have to interact with spooky scary communists if you switch it up!

I moved instances after the downtime when Sync came out, it’s been smooth sailing since

I just did the move. Tired of having the website offline and no info. Will delete the account soon

have half dozen various types. no need to delete. fedi-wide accounts are still a wish. name them the same and carry on. can set a redirect on mastodon. not sure lemmy

Thinking of the same thing, but if I delete my account on an instance, do the comments and posts from that account also get deleted?

IF you want to switch to an alternative instance use the tool Lasim to synchronize your accounts: synchronize subscriptions, settings and/or blocks. Tool is available for Windows, Linux and MacOs.

Do you know of a way for those of us only on mobile to move subs over?

just pick another instance and create another account. same email. not complicated. can’t migrate stuff you can’t get to, meh lemmy instances fediverse.observer

Probably because lemmy.world is down again.

Wait for lemmy.world to be back up and try again. If you can’t login on the web, the tool won’t be able to login either.

Oh that’s a pity. Switched from lemmy.world to feddit.nl flawlessly today. Using Windows though.

Cuz you can just use another smaller instance, as you should.

Lemmy.zip and lemm.ee are cool

Everyone talking about how small and better lemm.ee is really starting to give “have you heard about this hidden gem The Witcher 3?” vibes.

lemm.ee isn’t even that small. It’s the 6th largest active lemmy instance iirc

That’s the point of the joke, the witcher 3 is a huge game but people always act like they’re in on some secret for knowing that it’s good.

For all the people that like to talk about having access to the whole fediverse and decide for themselves who to block…

mander.xyz and ttrpg.network are both rather niche instances in their own right, but don’t defederate, and I don’t believe are defederated by, anyone.

No one join them and say/do anything toxic though, don’t ruin a good thing for me lol
