is there a place for me if im interested in people’s stories and experiences but not in depersonalized news and jokes and us politics? i dont want to post from the name of community but from my name, i dont want to subscribe to the whole community but to interesting people/topics

It’s simple, I use it.

Sarcasm aside, I hop on it every few days to see what new stuff Lemmy is talking about, comment a few things, then move on. Return to reply to replies, rinse and repeat for a few days until I’m in the mood to browse Lemmy again.

Casually. I poke around whatever pops up but don’t take it too seriously. I usually learn about some other event that I look deeper into.

Honestly I pretty much just use Lemmy to see the good old fashioned memes. Like everyone is saying, mastodon is the one if you want to follow people.

i use mastodon for a long time now but i thought lemmy was a social network too, but now it seems more like news website that organizes news in categories.

That is still a growing aspect of Lemmy. There are a few communities that may be interesting to you, such as !Asklemmy@lemmy.ml or !Asklemmy@lemmy.world, !askmeanything@lemmy.ca, !casualconversation@lemm.ee, and probably some others. You can also find some active fandoms by searching, as well as some lifestyle communities (like !fatherverse@midwest.social)
