In between my spikes of melancholy, isolation and loneliness I’m currently playing Tekken 8. The game can be extremely frustrating and unfair but I don’t have anything else to play and I’m running out of money so I won’t buy anything else this year. WWE 2k24 has been a disappointment this year, cyberpunk was a disappointment, stardew valley has been a disappointment. Warframe, another disappointment, that game feels that has no real direction or sense of progress.
Seems like modern games aren’t good anymore (I guess stardew valley isn’t new but whatever).
The only decent modern decent game I played this year is Re4remake…
I was planning of buying the new Spider-Man game, but after seeing the promotional material, it turned me off.
I feel like you gotta know what kind of games appeal to you. I’m also not into a whole lot of modern games but I got completely absorbed with Outer Wilds and Subnautica. Freely exploring a world with interesting mechanics while you try and uncover what is going on. Love it.
I also found I really enjoy Oxygen Not Included and Frostpunk. Something about making sure all my people are surviving and hopefully thriving really keeps me invested. And the little narrative things in those games are nice icing on top too.
So for games you like, like the RE 4 remake, what were the things you liked about it? Once you know what kind of things you enjoy in games it makes it easier to find more of that.
I’m a 20 years plus RE fan. Of course I was going to buy it. Is almost as good as the original.
So what is it about RE that keeps you coming back? Were you into all the games in the series?
Majority yes, the gore, the action, the bow’s, the sexy characters, the ridiculous one liners, the stupid buy memorable story, umbrella. Is like a tribute to an long gone era of Hollywood sci fi movies (except 7, that one kinda sucks).
hi-fi rush. just finished my 4th playthrough but it just doesnt get boring
Feel free to have a look at !patientgamers@sh.itjust.works, there was a thread yesterday with the same question and a lot of answers
Okay wait, how are Cyberpunk and Stardew both disappointments? If you’d mentioned Starfield I’d believe you but both those games are critically acclaimed and for good reason.
For my part, I’ve been playing No Man’s Sky and I just restarted Tears of the Kingdom. I might dig into my retro library and start up Golden Sun though, it’s been a while and I’m due for a replay.
Returning to the Elden Ring DLC today. I decided to not change my build. I will rather start collecting the Scadutree Fragments, which I completely ignored until I hit a brick wall mid DLC.
The Onion of Death will return. And it will fuck shit up.
You’re not using the new stuff in the DLC? Lotta cool things to play with. I’m on a dex build using some heavy fucking armor I got right in the beginning and switching between the various dex weapons I keep finding. I kind of want to level up more so I can try new spells without having to respec
