It is soo good. A tech company i just got offer from. In their onboarding app, they let me join the union on the first day.
This is what you see in the company with strong union.
Is this not the norm? The only two jobs I ever had that had unions, did the same thing. Though, they also had the union rep come and explain shit before you filled out any paperwork.
I’m coming at this from the bottom. But it’s incredibly sus to me.
I’d contact the union direct and speak to them about this before I signed.
That smells like a trap. Like I know my ability to trust anything but white oak and black iron has burned down and leaked out my right ear as a fine white dust but I would avoid that button then go to the union rep in person.
When I worked at Kroger they forced you to join the union, when they passed a law that made it your choice, before it went into effect, Kroger went to each employee individually and told them they had to sign a two year contract with the union or you would lose your job. The union was horrible, they didn’t fight for wages, they didn’t protect employees in any situation during the 3 years I was there, and they straight up had leadership in the store performing leadership roles in the union.
Unions can be amazing things, but you should ask yourself why a company would want you to join one. Maybe they have your best intentions in mind, maybe they don’t.
Maybe they live in a country like mine where unions are very very common. My work even applies union contracts to non union employees because why not, it’s just easier for everyone.
It’s also pretty common for our politicians to be former union employees and leaders.
About 68% of our entire workforce is unionised and while that’s a lot, it’s still down from 77% in 2006.
why you need permission to join in the first place?
