But evangelical leaders warn that’s no guarantee their rank and file will stay involved in politics if Republicans abandon socially conservative issues, like abortion and gay marriage, even as they lean in on others, like banning transgender kids from participating in youth sports. In July, Trump nearly sparked a platform fight at the Republican National Convention over language that couched abortion as primarily in the hands of the states, a position anti-abortion advocates almost uniformly oppose.

We can only hope that he continues to piss them off and they abandon him.

They’re still gonna vote for him.

Since the beginning of this whole debacle, the most perplexing curiosity to me is how so many succeptable individuals have come to view him as this infallible figure. The basic tenents of being objective and critical in order to make informed decisions seem to have been thrown directly out the window. It’s the cultivation of willful ignorance and flat out denialism; the opposite of academia.

I’m still in disbelief that so many are being fooled by such a obviously phony character. I just don’t get it. However, I refuse to give up on the idea that we ARE better than this. We ARE smarter than this. Get this fucking clown out of here already, I’m sick of the name and the face.

You realize you’re talking about evangelicals, right? Critical thinking is literally against their religion.

It’s completely anecdotal, but I just saw a post from the weird, hyper religious kid I was in the Navy with asking if any 3rd party cared about “unborn souls.”

Yeah, he didn’t do anything directly in this area last time, he just appointed the judges that would. If he can appoint even more judges, they can probably ban abortion outright for a whole generation. They know this and they’ll vote for that.

If he messes up enough they might stay home. It’s happened plenty of times.

I suspect that a lot of people just sit out.

Don’t bet on it. Nobody wants 2016 part 2. “ahh it’s fine I don’t need to vote for Harris, she’s got this.” Bull fucking shit! Don’t even encourage that line of thought. These assholes will vote for Dump and “hold their nose” while doing it.

Its crazy how all those “issues” encroach on the freedoms of others and do not effect them one bit. Every single one is about controlling others. Yaldabaoth, indeed.

Isn’t that the essence of religion?

No, religion at its core is a coping mechanism for the finite aspect of life. People really dont like that death seems to be you going away forever.

No, most religions encourage people to practice stewardship when they’re generally going to benefit more from destroying the world around them for their benefit.

For example, before semi modern times you could generally gain more from cheating and stealing even as a peasant. But society needed everyone to be good to eachother and society itself in order to progress.

That’s the main purpose of religion. That’s why most popular religions tell people they’ll get an eternal reward later if they live this life unselfishly.

They won’t. Their goal is theocracy. They’d prefer it tomorrow, but they’ll chip away incrementally if need be. That’s what they did with the courts, which is why we’re here in the first place. They’re still voting for Trump.

Lol they’re not backing off. Half of their identity is trying to shove religion into politics. They know that works better with Trump even if he flips on Abortion. Just like they supported Romney, McCain, and Bush.
