I honestly don’t understand the people who use it daily. Everyone I’ve ever worked with just uses it as an online resume

Of the people I see posting stuff daily (or at least within a day of the few times a year I log in), it’s all posted by people I’ve worked with with in the past who I thought it was a miracle they were employed at all. And they usually still/again have the Open To Work badge on their pic.

If LinkedIn got rid of the entire concept of a feed, I think it would work a lot better. And the “loss of engagement” won’t contain anything of value apart from ad impressions.

So the stupidest most gullible people you’ve worked with seem to live on that feed having lots of ad impressions, which are likely to be quite effective due to how gullible they are and the fact that they are all adults with money, and you are asking why MS doesn’t remove the feed?

I wonder too…

Precisely. I have no interest in engaging with it as a social network. It’s like the worst of both worlds.

I honestly don’t know why I have an account. The once a year I log in, I see that it’s a self help - self promotion death spiral of despair and I immediately nope out. That’s not even counting the advertising dms, which are sent straight from satan’s asshole.

I feel like companies basically force you to have one at this point. Last time I applied for jobs literally every application has a section to post your linkedin profile.

It’s really just a way for former coworkers thatdon’t know your personal email or phone, or don’t feel comfortable using them if they do, to reach out to you if they have an opening or are looking for one after a layoff or something urgent.

It was the same for me. When I saw a few days ago that they were switching to Microsoft Azure, that was the last straw for me (even though it actually makes absolutely no difference to me). The funniest part is that when I clicked to delete my account, they said: ‘Are you sure? You will no longer be in contact with Jon Doe?’ and I had never heard of Jon Doe. The easiest decision ever.

TBH my one and only concern about TikTok is that its a military campaign from a hostile dictatorship.

Idgaf about how good or bad their moderation seems to be given that first point.

There seems to be this disinformation campaign trying to spin it that the reason the US government has an issue with TikTok is because they don’t want the free expression of ideas. What’s going out on TikTok isn’t what the government cares about. It’s that the company is controlled by the Chinese government and the potential use of it for spying and major privacy violations is significant.

LinkedIn didn’t originally have a feed. Once it was implemented more and more people started using it as face book.

In the last year I’ve seen:

  • A video of 3 people killed by a lightening strike, with some weird business wisdom tag line underneath.

  • Many, many people arguing about the existence of Israel.

  • Lots of anti woke “it wasn’t like that in my day, bunch of snow flakes” comments.

Back in the day you’d have to join a group to post something. The groups were all related to business concepts I.e. Dev Ops in Asia.

Now it’s a shit show that should be avoided.

I only use it for job adverts these days.
