Lemmy.world admins are the worst fucking dweebs on the fediverse.

I need to check out this community to improve my piracy game 🏴‍☠️

Most rappers are legitimate criminals some even murderers. They don’t deserve shit.

People act like “normal” people aren’t criminals. The world is really dark. Oh yeah not to mention ruining lives and families by selling them crack or pimping out women and kids.

Snoop drove for a hitter.

Source: seent it irl.

My life growing up with emcees and bloods that connect with Boston and ny/bk/bx. As well as being in the graffiti culture. I’ve had death threats against my family and kids and gunshots directly outside my house, and been stalked. Seen fist sized rocks of meth and automatic weapons.

Believe it or not not heeding the wisdom will be your loss if you ever end up mixed up in the bullshit. It made me almost kill myself and I’m still dealing with it.

Not talking about pop rap. Aside from the old heads from the 90s.

Every dealer has a boss. Every boss has to protect their life. Every boss has a crew. I’ve seen shit deep. I know the way it all works. Favors for favors etc. If you aren’t the guy on the top then your freedom relies on being submissive to the one above you. I’ve seen people do anything to stay out of prison.

Who wants to bet “criminals” is a euphemism for a certain melanin-rich ethnic group?

permalink

Wait you’re saying that if someone committed a crime before then they don’t deserve pay for their work ever?

Pretty sure the artists get paid whether consumers pirate the final product or not? The Bungie devs don’t get paid less money for every game that is pirated 🤡

Actually they might. Game developers get bonuses based on how well the game sold. Well a lot at least. It’s not just games though.

I still pirate things. It’s just way more convenient than having 30 subscriptions

Artists don’t deserve to be paid for their work.

That’s the take of the suits and investors that receive the staggering majority of the revenue from the companies you’re stanning for.

Didnt lemmy.world defederate to not get into any legal trouble?

permalink

They’re just normal people running the instance, not a major corporation with a legal team. While it’s unfortunate they defederated, it’s understandable that they’d rather be overly cautious when it comes to stuff they can be sued for

Anyone can be sued for anything. That alone isn’t a good reason.

A website like this is never going to be actually held liable for people making comments about piracy. That’s not how the law works.

Yep I love piracy but I have a real life and I’d think twice about what I hosted if i ran an instance…no matter what I believe and the low likelihood of legal consequences. Hosting an instance is a hobby. I have to click two buttons in the app I use to access this place on another account. Who cares.

No one has been able to correctly enumerate what “legal trouble” there was. It was proactive with nothing leveraged against them.

Yeah, I don’t know why they make drama out of this, it was just a desicion, dumb, unnecessary, coward or whatever you want to but they’re in their right at the end of the day

I see a lot of people taking issue with how it was handled. An obvious troll controlling sock puppets apparently spurred this, sure.

But the mods of Lemmy World went on a reddit-like spiteful ban spree, apparently forgetting that we can all see their modlogs or simply not caring about it. People got up in arms over the very childish and assholish behavior of the Lemmy World mods, and folks were eventually unbanned in some cases, but still banned from the main communities as punishment. For example, people saying they would just leave and federate their own instance got banned with mod messages telling them “let us help you with that”.

That’s all well and good in theory, but in practice it isn’t as easy.

Communities here will naturally centralize to the biggest ones. If all of a sudden an admin of the instance that a certain massive community is on goes bananas and starts de-federating from all sorts of instances and makes stupid decisions, just saying “hurr durr just go and make your own instance and community” isn’t helpful because 99% of the people there won’t just pick up and start again on a different instance.

The decentralized nature was supposed to solve the problems with centralization, but really all it does is make the same centralization problems happen more often.

Them defederating piracy communities was the nail in the coffin for me, just deleted account.

First was some weird shit about a porn community with petite girls and how it invites pedophiles. Even though that one doesn’t affect me, it’s still like uhhhhh, petite women exist…

Now this piracy shit. It’s like they’re pushing their morals and “concerns” onto every member without consent. Reddit still has piracy and petite subreddits, which paints somewhat of a picture of how non issue they are.

Hopefully shitjustworks is fast, stable, and doesn’t pull that shit.

Adorableporn. The girl in question wasn’t even naked if the post people said sparked it was the one I saw. Braces = cp apparently.

There’s even a fauxbait.

Double irony both from their name and this hope considering they’ve been down for a while now.

EDIT: and they’re back up now. Maybe they didn’t want Lemmy.world hogging all the downtime.

To be fair, the petite girl controversy thing was the lemmy.blahaj.zone admin being a weird tyrant, not lemmy.world. Unless they did the same thing at LW lol. Thus far shitjustworks has been reliable and unobtrusive for me.

The way it’s been working so far is that people will bring up instances they have concerns about in the agora community. There’s community discussion, and then a vote. So far I think just exploding-heads was defederated from after a discussion and vote.

They certainly picked a weird hill to choose for defederating, lots of communities defederate lemmynsfw just because they don’t want porn in users feeds (which is totally fair). The specific post they were angry at was a verified OF model and also had been verified for the community they were posted in. Like if you just don’t want a porn instance just say that’s the reason, dont make it look bad

Lemmy seems to be following a path of Discord. First you pick your genre/niche, join a Lemmy instance that is friendly/popular to that topic, then join and start subscribing to topics in that niche.

That’s why I’ve joined at dbzer0, to follow the discussion related to piracy without worry of defederation as the largest community for that niche is here.

There was also the pre-emptive de-federating from another instance because the admin didn’t agree with that instance’s admins political ideologies, even though on that instance the admin was telling people to obey other instance rules and not brigade etc.
