The Wii-U walked so the Switch could run. Playing Windwaker HD on the Wii-U was one of my favorite experiences.
I also loved my Wii U. It’s such a shame it wasn’t more popular. I basically used it like a switch with a box that needed to be plugged in, just took the console places and anywhere with an outlet I could plug in and play on the screen. Obviously the switch is the superior console but the Wii U was a banger.
I know a number of people who thought the Wii U was an attachment for the Wii and not a separate console so you might be right about the name.
But didn’t the WiiU requitlre a base console still and just streamed that image to the handheld?
Versus the switch that is that base console and handheld.
The Wii u was better (when the game developer used it correctly), it was a separate screen that showed different content. It was more like a DS.
Some of the games in Nintendo land were excellent local multiplayer games that will never get replicated again. They made great use of the second screen concepts.
I loved playing hyrule warriors (the first one) on it, because you could play local co-op but not split screen, without needing another unit. It was an absolutely superior experience to split screen.
I wish there was something similar with a higher quality screen, but I think that ship has probably sailed.
It beats the others: “here’s a new box, it’s better we promise”
Not joking, I’m secretely hoping their new console is the same format as Switch, but lets us use a 2nd unit or an old Switch as a screened controller. Ever since Resident Evil on Dreamcast I’ve been thinking every console could use a ‘HUD in the controller’
I’m kina hoping the ps6 controller will have a touchscreen where the touchpad is.
