if lemmy ever wants to succeed, we have to stop being obsessed with reddit and reddit drama.

For me, it is pure schadenfreude at this point.

Just a few days ago, the Reddit talk had already died down. With the mass exodus, it will be talked about for a bit before it dies down again.

Imo, that’s good engagement. It’s what people are going through. There’s no reason to ignore it. Just as long as they don’t keep talking about it a month from now.

Eh, this is the internet. Reddit and Twitter being dumpster fires this week is the hot topic. Something will likely come up soon enough to become the next circlejerk. But, to your point, it keeps driving engagement, which will increase traffic and conversation, and as long as the knuckleheads steer clear will help us build vibrant communities.

I know it’s frustrating, but just give it time. Folks will get tired of it eventually.

I’ll be using both platforms and seeing how it goes. Lemmy has a totally different vibe, but it’s a welcome one. Feels like the old days of the open internet. Also the memes are better 😂

I’ve got a craving for a cosy PHPbb forum from 2005.

Big ol’ profile pics and banner signatures need to come back.

Honestly, today with Reddit going through with the API changes and Twitter absolutely destroying their platform, this kind of feels like a lovely little campfire away from a collapsing civilization.

Not to be super dramatic, both platforms will still live, but lord it’s a weird couple of days for some internet communities.

Sadly way too many people are too lame to actually do anything in their personal lives about the API changes. Makes me kinda sad to see

I expect the exodus to be much less than some others are calling for, only because people are way more stubborn to breaking up with content than the app that serves it
