Trying this out here. We all seem to have pretty eclectic tastes here, so I figured we could swap artists!

Posters, pick a genre or give a description of what you’re after, and everyone else, chime in!

To start: this super sad folk record (singer/songwriter style) just popped into my head this morning

Rio de la Muerte - Lovers In Winter and Other Short Stories

Andy Stott - When it hits

Massive reverb. Beautifully simple melody. Sounds like a hundred pianos playing at once in a hall.

I love it. Sounds like some of the more ambient Dungeon Synth I listen to.

Oh, yeah. This is one of them that I’ve been vibing with: https://youtu.be/Wp9pzKbENQk?si=1nxdKCAY68cYZNRE I also like this one from time to time: https://youtu.be/OxgVmpAk538?si=KmfvEy-faKJcF1mG That’s some of the more ambient stuff, but sometimes Glog goes into the ambient vibes for a song or two as well. Best part is, you can get it cheap off of bandcamp. And one more: https://youtu.be/2lS_Y-aNJwk?si=CVcouCfL6nXgrhrt There’s another one called Dark Alchemy or something like that, but I’m afraid of tabbing out and deleting this whole post on accident.

Everyone should get super into brass band music because it is cool and good. Brass band isn’t one style but is actually a standardised instrumentation designed to make covering absences easier because the people playing in these bands weren’t (and largely still aren’t) professional musicians. I’m gonna do a megathread on it at some point I s2g.

This is one of my favourite pieces of original music for the format: Demelza - Hugh Nash recorded by the Cory Band. I’ve played this solo before, I’ve got a lot of good memories with it and I think its a good representation of the slow style of original brass band music.

Ambient/melodic Vaporwave type stuff that doesn’t have any sort of beat/drums (or at least minimal beat/drums). Stuff kinda like this: desert sand feels warm at night - 夢の砂漠

I really like listening to that sort of stuff when I just want to chill out, but I also like sampling those sorts of track and using them to make Atmospheric Jungle/DnB (which is why I’d prefer songs with minimal/no drums).

Not a big fan of drums either, but I’m super sensitive to bass frequencies. I know it’s less atmospheric, but I like The Herbalists for its droney, video game tones.

I like creepy and unsettling folk tunes. Like some John Barleycorn Must Die or sometimes just some lo-fi folk recordings that sound creepy on accident. Any recs for me?
