What were you guys riding back in the day? This was the final form of my bike back when I was a teenager.

One One Gimp frame

FSA pig three piece cranks

Single speed conversion

24inch Atomlab rear wheel with DMR moto

26inch Atomlab front with DMR moto digger

Manitou forks

DMR wing bars and zip grips

DMR V8 pedals

I was chasing that slack head angle before it was cool apparently, not that I knew that was even a thing back then :D

My brakes were always my feet and I only recently got a saddle in these pictures as I rode without a saddle for around 4 years prior to this.

I wish I still had this bike but sadly it moved on a long time ago now.

I had a Norco Spitfire when I was a teen. https://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/norco/107821 (Yes I’m old) The one in the pic is bare, mine had all the foam pads but I can’t find a pic of one with them still on.)

That paint is killer! So glad you posted pictures after mentioning it in your other post. I can see why you want your new bike to match.

Thanks, I did it myself, perks of going to college learning to paint cars you could use all their paint and ovens etc.

It was a standard Fiat pink I found in the book with a yellow pearl added to the laquer. I also added a fine grade of mettalic to the laquer so you could see the mettalic metal flakes shimmering in the light, I sadly don’t have a photo that shows that part off though xD

My first mountain bike was a 1996-ish GT Avalanche with a rigid steel fork. It was light and fast, but stiff as hell and rattled me to death.

Later I built a Soma Groove (steel hardtail) with a bunch of used components and a short XC fork. It was nothing fancy, but I had endless fun on that bike. I wish I had never sold it.

Nice! The bike that started my obsession with riding and what later became this bike through years of upgrading parts before changing frames etc was a Saracen X-ess which originally came with some dodgy late 90s SR suntour forks and plenty of plastic shit :D

Don’t have pictures that old, but my first mountain bike was a Norco 250(?) from early 2000s. Equipped with Z1 bomber qr20 year 2000, 24/26 mullet Atomlab wheels

That bike was absolute tank, and way too long for me but damn do I have good memories of it.

I’m surprised I still have these pictures to be honest, I don’t have many pictures from around this time and can’t find any of me actually riding.

Good times though! I feel like everyone had bombers or dirt jumpers from marzochi (sp) back then!

Marzocchi open bath coil forks were just amazing early 2000, no wonder why people loved them.

I have the fork (with replaced steerer and bent crown) still at my parents place, and after over a decade of no service sitting in cold storage through Finnish winters it’s still as smooth as ever.

I won’t try and pretend they weren’t decent forks around that time I just personally didn’t like the feel of them so always found myself going in other directions.

I really liked these Manitou I had on this build or prior to those I had some Rock Shox Psylo’s that I also really liked.

Found a picture of my 2nd bike that really stepped up my riding, in 2010ish.
Black Market Contraband 24". God I miss this bike, wish I never traded it away…

Fun fact: I had originally bought a pair of Haro bmx grips for the bike, that my friend hated so much he bought me a pair of pink Odi longnecks shown in the photo

Nice! I’m considering getting a bmx or building something more like this for the winter as I really can’t be fucked with the mud around where I am.
