If we only had a way to stop supporting that industry to prevent them from buying politicians…

I think politicians are more afraid of voters and their reaction to significant meat price increase.

Poultry is staple food in much of the world. Caged farming is used because it is cheap. When it is forbidden the staple food will get more expensive. And it will hurt the poor the most.

Yes meat price increase is the way to go… but that is not easy to push and will hurt not those we want. Things would be easier if we can find cheap, healthy (most ‘meat alternatives’ are highly processed food, which is not better than meat) alternative that people will accept.

  1. Nutritionally, you don’t specifically need meat alternatives. For protein, even just peas will do (yes, there are other things in meat as well, this is an example). For the most part, people just need to learn to cook differently.
  2. Tofu is an example of a food that (in its pure form) is really healthy, not processed much, inexpensive, and which is often counted as a meat alternative.
  3. Even the highly processed plant protein + seasoning types of food tend to be more healthy than animal meat, provided the seasoning doesn’t include too much salt/sugar. (They also tend to be less healthy than just eating the actual plant product though.)

Ok. Now convince milions relying on meat.

Government politician telling people ‘stop eating meat, that will be better for you and to make the switch easier we will make meat more expensive’ won’t be a government politician after next elections.

The Industry is already afraid of people stopping supporting the atrocities, even if its just for their own good because it is major contributor to climate change. The poor eat the least animals and are most affected by it. A plant based diet is cheaper and healthier. It would even be cheaper if the subsidies for the animal industry would go to plant based food, as proposed by the IPCC.

Following the demands of the Big Agri lobby, she announced plans for ‘more dialogue’ – despite endless consultations, meetings and scientific opinions over the past many years, and with tens of thousands of citizens providing input in the policy-making process.

The only brexit benefit is for the UK to be out of the corrupt CAP crap

The UK replacement agriculture policy has removed production subsidies. They are a major part of the problem with the CAP

It still needs implementing over the next decade, hopefully that’s under Labour’s remit, who are still committed to net zero and a clean economy, unlike the Tories
