Direct message

Looked around a bit more, and I think I get it. Sorry for the confusion.

But it’s still somewhat strange. The page itself is pretty barebones, and no license seems to be included.

In the lack of more information, it would seem suspicious. But when opening an archived version of the page, it seems to be a wrapper for Commodore ROMs so people can publish their own projects plug-and-play?

I can conjecture some things, though I can’t be 100% sure on either:

First, maybe it’s fanatics/fanboys that don’t like competition making their platform less relevant. Second, it’s paid actors complaining. Third, it’s robot accounts making posts. Fourth, as proposed in the OP, people are getting the wrong impression due to noisy and problematic bubbles. Fifth, people being scared of leaving their comfort zone. Sixth, a mix of either some or all the previous possibilities.

For me, first, a lot of stuff becomes accessible, like news, which just get published in the country’s specific language(s) unless they have immediate international repercussions, jokes and memes, which can lose their meanings in translation if they even get translated, musics, which there is a surprising amount of non-English ones for genres I like, publications in social medias, etc.

And on a second point, since I often look for patterns, and in languages that is no different, I slowly become able to interpret neighboring languages to the ones I study. That I can remember, from languages I can somewhat interpret, there’s French, Italian, Latin and the Spanish dialects thanks to Spanish and Portuguese, German, Danish and Swedish thanks to English and Norwegian, and a tiny bit of Chinese thanks to Japanese. That also helps giving to me a kick-start to learning new languages.

And on a third point related to the first, if a given material exists in multiple languages, I have the freedom to choose which I want to consume. =)

Regarding the message in the title, much like on Reddit, there seems to be a downvote mob here, although smaller. But also like Reddit, after a while, the ones here on the federated platform seem to get tired of downvoting en masse those that don’t subside to their pressure. And tying back to the tip, while I struggle to think of a specific use case for that, I’ve seen other highly specific ideas before, and that, for their use cases, were quite good, so I imagine yours can be useful too, specially with the text body’s tone, and thus I don’t think it’s worth stressing over people trying to cause a silence spiral on yet another social media.

The post title was a pun with the mod’s original name, “T-Edition”, and me insisting on playing the Japanese version despite still having difficulties with the language. But besides apparently increasing the main game’s difficulty, the mod adds a ton of optional challenges, including one that, iirc, acts like FFV’s mini dragon.

The more concerning part is the bootloader that keeps being made more and more cumbersome to unlock. Not as easy to install one’s system of choice when you need to beg the device maker to allow access to the part of the system required for that. =/

I mean, slap a proper desktop system and plug some bluetooth devices like a controller or a keyboard and mouse, and you got a makeshift laptop / notebook / whatever-the-current-name-is.
