I don’t know why you’d switch from the clusterfuck that is Twitter to anything made by Meta, one of the worst tech companies out there. It’s like trading a turd for a piece of shit.
Mastodon is the only reasonable alternative IMO, the only problem is that not enough people are on there.

Australia’s history is basically:
Have problem with native animal species
Introduce another animal species to combat the first animal species
Now you have two problems
Rinse, repeat

Once you get used to an ad-free Reddit experience, it’s truly jarring how many ads the official Reddit app has. Same with Youtube. I have Adblock for Youtube on my computer and when I use the Youtube app on my TV I’m astounded by the number of ads being greedily shoved down my face.

Sure, and then they’ll be fined for what looks like a huge amount of money to us regular folks but to a corporation like Meta is essentially a slap on the wrist, and they’ll keep doing illegal shit.
We really need to start charging corporations GDP of Switzerland-level sums if we want them to behave ethically.

I was kind of feeling that Reddit had started to prioritize videos over everything else, so I’m fine with this for now. But I also hope Lemmy gets some video support soon because posting links to Youtube videos isn’t ideal.

Lava eruptions like this tend to be less dangerous than ash eruptions, which can mess up air traffic and the ashfall is bad for the lungs and crops. So I don’t think there’s much cause for concern.

I’m by no means an expert but in Iceland,
eruption under a glacier = ash eruption
eruption not under a glacier = lava flow.
I’m sure it’s more nuanced than that but it seems to be the rule of thumb over here.

When it erupts underneath a glacier, it causes huge clouds of ash to form. The volcano you’re talking about (Eyjafjallajökull) is a glacier volcano in the highlands whereas this one is on the Reykjanes peninsula on the west side.
