Mods are leaving first, their tools have been neutered, and they’d rather move to lenmy, kbin or anything else where they don’t have to fight the admins. Users will follow

The really perverse thing is there’s no intention to ever harvest it. If they did that they’d have to pay back the carbon credits. They plant it and leave it, gather carbon credits quickly for 40 years. The rate slows down to a trickle after that as the canopy is mature. There is really no plan after that. Source family in forestry.

Anyone can be the god of their own instance. Doesn’t mean other instances need to federate and listen to whatever it spits out. I imagine some metric of quality will come for instance admins to decide who to federate with. Hopefully with a mechanism to allow small new instances to join and thrive so it doesn’t devolve into only the big servers trusting each other

Musky is probably wondering how to charge search engines indexing his site for free

Paying once for a mobile app doesn’t make much sense for devs, on the desktop they’ll come out with a new version a year or two later that’s an upgrade or full price for the update. On mobile they can’t loose their install base so are stuck supporting customers forever who aren’t bringing in any more revenue. Most app developers make far more per user from ads on the free versions of the app. As much as I hate ads and subscription fees, I feel for the small app developer.

Yes if its buried or made into heirloom furniture. Much ends up as paper, boxing and framing for concrete construction and burnt. Very little truly locks it away long term, so the rules are that you count it as emissions at harvest time. If someone buys that and provably buries it at the bottom of a cave forever, they can claim the carbon credits again.

It’s the mods leaving that are going to doom the site. The users will follow soon after
