Many will be fine with Reddit and the direction it is going in. There will always be new people coming into Reddit who have no idea of how things had been. Some will be more than happy to become mods. Reddit is still going to be active. They’re going to refill the empty mod ranks and carry on as normal. The platform will happily carry on, we just jump ship from the shit show. So yeah people may well keep falling over themselves to engage with this new Reddit.

Most people have already addressed the fact that you’ll need more SSD space and that other accessories aren’t strictly required; but here’s what I got:

  • Laptop 65W USB-C PD chargers off eBay (cost £18 each instead of £30 for a USB PD charger +£10 for a cable). Have a look at PD power banks as well if that’s something of use to you.

  • A hoodie with a big pocket on the front. Perfect for carrying around the Deck in the pocket.

  • This 90° elbow connector from Ali Express to play while plugged in.

  • Deckmate for attaching anything you want to the Deck.

  • 8bitDo makes for a perfect controller to use with the Deck (whichever flavour you like).

  • Whichever wired/wireless earphones you like

  • Any universal USB-C hub you like. People tend to be fixated on a dock. I personally don’t see any reason for a Deck to be propped upright. A flat universal hub can be packed in a bag easier and used with your laptop too.

  • Back button enhancers.

  • I haven’t needed to open up my Deck since I got the 512 version, but if I ever do open it I’ll put in hall effect joysticks.

  • I already had an air mouse/keyboard lying around which I use to do quick tasks in desktop mode without having to connect it to my computer monitor. The Unified Remote Android app works well for this as well.

  • a lot of people have put skins and cases on theirs but I haven’t. See if that’s something you would like.

  • You could get a screen protector as well. I didn’t since I got the 512 GB version.

I did something similar to you and OP.

I commuted to university. I didn’t even like my university and their teaching program was incredibly poor. Money was incredibly tight. I never fit into the culture. The whole thing was still an experience in finding myself. I found I didn’t like cliques, didn’t like drinking/partying culture and just wanted quiet and intimate friendships. And that’s OK. University was full of difficulties and a poor experience for a lot of people. At least OP got through OK with good grades.

The good news for OP is that life gets better. Post-uni was the best time ever for me…people around me were more grown up, I finally had money, working life was much better and I had freedom to pursue what I wanted. University sucked for me and I got over it quickly and life has been getting much better since. Just look forward to how awesome your life can be from here on.

I even went back to university for a postgraduate degree much later and had a much better academic experience. Also at that point I didn’t care at all about getting into “student life” and just enjoyed studying.

Good luck OP.

Path of Exile. It’s been great on the Steam Deck and I’m going through the last few days of this league. Once that finishes I’ll start putting a lot more time into Street Fighter 6 (with the compact portable hitbox controller I made) and some Eldest Souls on the side.

“Additional responsibilities” is obviously the correct intended answer.

$20 is indeed too much. I don’t even need to buy ad removal, if the app is good I’ll usually throw some money at a donation link (Boost for Reddit gave this option). If Sync gets a donation option I’d pay a voluntary amount there.
