They’re ramping up bots to cover the loss of users.

Very very few people actually post, and a little more comment. But as bot posts became the majority, lurkers are going to start leaving as quality dips.

It’s nice to be somewhere that isn’t full of bots and doesn’t coddle nazis

Depends on instance…

My last one wouldn’t defederate from a shitshow instance full of transphobia, threats of violence, and basically anything else you’d see on 4chan.

Apparently all that was just a “difference of opinions” so my old instance said it was fine.

The problematic instance also had a lot of posts shitting on this one for defederating them, so I just signed up a new account here.

I think that’s the best part of Lemmy, it’s easy to just drop an instance and find another that aligns more with what you want out of it.

A decade from now if the biggest instance pulls a spez, everyone would just move to a new instance

Yeah, they’re the one that makes you answer 3 vague open end questions and then manually approve it.

If you don’t write enough, or write something they dont agree with… You dont get denied, it’s just like it’s still pending indefinitely.

Lemmy.world requires a valid email instead (something beehaw doesn’t).

There’s no right or wrong way to go about it. Which is the biggest benefit of Lemmy. Somewhere out there, there’s an instance being ran like how you want, if not, just make your own.

But then they’d have to coordinate directly with advertisers.

The biggest can probably do that, but not 99.9% of content creators.

I really doubt many mods see it like that.

Obviously their biases come out in their moderation, but I’d assume the majority think they’re doing a service and what users want.

Except the puppet mods on news/politics subs whose day job is pushing a narrative for someone. Those ones know what they’re doing.

It won’t take long.

Like TIL or any kind of help/diy sub was mostly reposts from bots. And the top comments were either bots copying the top comments from last time, or sometimes a real user who saw it so much they recite it from memory.

The knowledge is still out there in people’s heads. Eventually someone will ask the question again. Then it’s on here instead of reddit. We can wait for people to ask, or bots can just repost here like they still do on Reddit.

Bots aren’t really good or bad, it’s how they’re used.

Bots can simultaneously kill reddit and boost Lemmy into its replacement

It’s easy to make $300,000,000 in funding into a “nonprofitable” company.

You just pay the people running it more than you have. Then usually claim loses on your taxes.

This is what reddit doesn’t get when they say it’s only a small fraction of users who left.

Redditors aren’t created equally. The vast majority lurk and maybe don’t even upvote.

You put in more work than a lot of professional journalists, and provided the content for free

The thing is a lot of instances have multiple shitty communities.

You can block one, but then the same edgelords make a new community on their instance for the same bigotry.

Which leads users playing whack a mole.

I took a look at your instance tho, and I 100% understand why you’d be upset at this instance for defederating.

I’m betting it’s some bigot upset that this instance defederated from one they like and/or run.

There’s one in particular that was pretty big and just got defederated from most major instances.

They’re mad others don’t have to see their shit now
