Mod for a medium-sized city subreddit, here. I have absolutely no idea how I’m going to be able to keep modding for it, now that apps like Apollo and RIF are dead. It is functionally impossible to mod effectively with the official app (let alone the mobile site).

I’m not quite ready to just abandon the city community I spent so much time assisting - I mean, they’re my friends and neighbors, not just my subreddit subscribers. But if they move to Lenny en masse, I’ll join them, and say goodbye to Reddit permanently.

There’s already a Lemmy community for the city, and I’m watching it closely to see if it takes off. So far, the signs are good, but the Reddit community is still a lot more active.

Maybe that will change as uses realize we simply can’t effectively moderate it anymore.

Hold up… Are you arguing that the idea China has an authoritarian government that we shouldn’t put in charge of the internet is just a liberal political position? And not an acknowledgement of the reality of China’s government?

Doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing, either. Sometimes a recession is a necessary reset, and maybe it’s time for social media to have one.

When did you try? The devs are stamping out bugs as fast as they can. Maybe you ran into one (or several). If you hit the “Create Community” link at the top, you can build one.

I desperately miss RIF, and I have a community I care about on Reddit that I mod.

But I’m going to see if I can rebuild it here. I think Reddit has basically committed suicide.

Yep. The only people I see insisting that Democrats love him… are desperate-sounding Republicans.

You won’t regret it. It’s a great movie.

Of course, knowing that we have twerps like that influencing culture and politics might also leave you feeling pissed off.

Mod of a city subreddit, here. That’s basically my fear. I love that community, but it’s become impossible to mod, and I have no doubt the absolutely worst people on the internet are going to be the majority of redditors eventually.
