Hehe me too!! (First post on Lemmy too…no more lurking since I’ve found “my people”!)

My obsession at the moment is with internet privacy and reducing data available to insidious ad companies….

But my usual staples are always Star Wars (I love it all - don’t get into the arguments/opinions about it either as I just love it all) Cycling (MTB and gravel cycling as well as bike packing) and Aviation/Aerospace (it’s my job too) ☺️

Absolutely however I do not own a person computer currently as I have to use one for work - when I did own one until recently I usually ran Manjaro on it. I started tinkering with Linux back in the days of early Ubuntu as an alternative to Windows XP :)

Pixel 7 Pro for personal use and an iPhone 14 Pro for work. I would like some of the polish of iOS in Android and some of the ease of use and less restrictions on iOS but both have their pros and cons.

Unfortunately I don’t work in IT - Aerospace Engineer and don’t get a say in IT and operating systems generally!

One of the nicer things I’m enjoying seeing after moving to Lemmy from Reddit, is seeing posts about the internet of 10, 15 and even 30 years ago and people having the same experience I had as well!

But also being reminded that the internet of today is definitely not how it used to be and finding like minded people who share the same values is something that’s sparked my old interest in “being involved” in online communities again.

Thanks for the heads up!

Just disabled this and a few other “Meta services” apps for “app download” and all the other nonsense…

Unfortunately using a bloated S23 at the moment but toying with getting a P7 Pro 🤦🏼‍♀️

Well this hits close to home…in a good way I guess…(I mean I was diagnosed 10 years ago and I think the PDA aspect of myself went into overdrive in the opposite direction around “what would the Dr know and I’ve done just fine for myself until now anyway” - only been the last couple of years I’ve slowly started to “accept” myself as actually autistic…)

It can be good to challenge authority when it’s called for, I mean, I’m the person my friends (nearly all are NT) when they want to know about situations (legal and workplace in particular) and what they can do to fight back… challenge authority as I am all for it, but it still needs to be done within the bounds of not getting into serious hot water over it as well.

In that sense it has helped me as well. Plenty of situations where they don’t expect people to stand up for themselves or understand the laws (which I have used to protect myself over the years in things like real estate leases, employment etc)

But the flip side is challenging every little thing that seems wrong. I have lost count of the amount of times I’ve been into a HR office for formal counselling over the years because of refusal or being “argumentative” or just flat out “not a good fit for the business”…so yeah like everything it’s not a feature it’s a bug that probably needs work in my case…but where do you ever start after so many years anyway sigh

Spotify Premium - because firstly don’t care about paying for it as I use it literally every single day and after using it for nearly 10 years the algorithms are perfect when it comes to music recommendations - plus it has a better catalogue as I listen to some pretty obscure non-mainstream dance and jazz/funk music. As for the UI it’s fine as I guess I am used to it. As for music sound quality - if I want music sound quality I will listen to my CD collection but for streaming via Bluetooth buds out and about with ANC it’s a moot point really…

Around 2002 when I tried Ubuntu for the first time on an old Dell laptop.

I only tried it initially as I was bored with Windows UI and liked the look of Linux. Used Linux ever since on and off.
