A friend and I were recently discussing how spineless modern boycotts are.

We set a goddamn deadline for when the Reddit boycott ended. No wonder Spez just waited. Most people then just continued using the website. What a disgrace.

Imagine if after one week of the genocide in Gaza, the BDS efforts just stopped. A boycott must be indefinite. It should go on until demands are met.

Read my post again. I’m not asking about the shining glorious utopia we’re building. I’m asking about now.

Not much, but I am aware that some of it had to do with psychiatry.

Not really incarcerated, per se. And only a subset of the dangerous people.

If someone commits murder in a fit of rage and regrets it afterwards, they would not need any obligation or coercion to undergo psychiatric treatment.

I’m not talking about an anarchist society. I’m asking what we should do now, as anarchists in a statist society.

It’s Bolshevism that tries to blame every issue with the USSR on Stalin while ignoring that many of the structures that eventually led to Stalinism were present earlier on, when Trotsky and Lenin were at the helm. As a consequence, non-Leninist socialists, such as anarchists and autonomists, tend to dislike Trotsky and as a consequence Trotskyists.

For further reading on the anarchist position: https://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/iain-mckay-the-bureaucracy-in-exile

The Stalinists, in turn, view Trotsky as effectively sabotaging the revolutionary movement by sowing division and opposition to the vanguard.

Various sides heavily dislike the campism and entryism, and love of front groups prevalent among Trotskyist organisations.

Because the alternatives are:

  • Prison

  • Execution

  • Exile, which offloads your problem to some other community

  • Letting someone who is a danger to themselves and others continue to be a danger
