This gives me an important idea. There ought to be a Fruity Pebbles subset cereal consisting of only the red pebbles. We could call it Bloody Pebbles.

Getting fat is self inflicted. Living in a food desert is self inflicted.

But keep blaming others.

If you’re in a food desert then how did you build up all that arterial plaque?

Bro, in a food desert – it’s all fast-food joints and corner stores. Arteries are getting clogged up with all those fries and sodas.

But…that is the common definition of “food desert.”

“A food desert is an area that has limited access to affordable and nutritious food.”

I realize the article has issues, but the definition has sources cited for its common usage. If you don’t like the definition, fine, but it’s a definite term for a defined phenomenon. You don’t get to pretend the phenomenon doesn’t exist because the term isn’t perfect…

I guess I’ve just not heard of the term ‘food desert’ used to describe a lack of healthy food and not…… a lack of food period.

Fast food is food too, just not good food. Semantics ig

I wonder what the accepted term is for a place without any food.

Food vacuum maybe?

you probably have but maybe just didn’t realise it, since that’s what it means:

A food desert is an area that has limited access to affordable and nutritious food.[1][2][3] In contrast, an area with greater access to supermarkets and vegetable shops with fresh foods may be called a food oasis.[4] The designation considers the type and the quality of food available to the population, in addition to the accessibility of the food through the size and the proximity of the food stores.[5]
