That would probably lead to the absolute worst outcome - every time he opens his mouth he damages his rep further in the eyes of his followers, so we need him to keep doing that:-).

I don’t see how the assassination of a former president and current candidate would do anything good for the country. It might be a value add for our adversaries because it would certainly be destabilizing.

Time for the people of the US to do some kind of a peaceful overthrowing of the system

Czechoslovakia did it.

That’s about the only example I can think of.

I don’t mind the way if the people there can get some kind of progress going, while it’s wrong to condone a violent uprising.

Peaceful movement can of course turn into a self defense situation which is ethically understandable.

Sideeye from the voting booth

Goes back to voting

If you don’t think we can win in the voting booth, we can’t win nonviolently, and we probably can’t win using violence, either. Voting is the non violent way to change things.

Too bad that even that voting system is rigged to only two options

To win we just need to look at the success of the teabaggers. They ran people at the bottom - school boards, county positions and local city councils. It took about ten years for those to move up the power chain to congress. Of course they achieved power through the backing of tons of very wealthy conservatives, state-of-the-art propaganda and experts at cheating, sprinkled with borderline violence.

The most influential person in politics is you. Openly speaking out to your family and friends about the danger of Donald Trump is the best method of his defeat and the preservation of our democracy. All politics is local.

Oh yeah, a lot of good that will do against the propaganda machine with billions of dollars to spend and a whole apparatus of disinformation to use. But, I’m sure my uncle who has gotten angry and cussed me out over politics will surely change his mind this time

That’s exactly how the propaganda machine wants you to feel and speak. Parent comment is right. You are the one with the power. Exercise it as if you might lose it if you don’t!

You should look up Deep Canvasing. That technique is actually very effective at overcoming personal biases, and it’s a big reason why there was a huge public shift with regards to gay rights.

The propaganda machine isn’t omnipotent, as much as it would want you to believe that.

If you don’t have a lot to fear from a right-wing dictatorship I guess all you can do is vote against it.

If you’re someone who does have something to fear from a right-wing dictatorship, begin thinking about preparations to hide, run, fight etc. because unsurprisingly every right-wing dictatorship has a high body count.

Still hoping common sense wins out, and unlike a lot of other countries that went dictatorship the military doesn’t have the same relative power and authority, but it’s best to have some plans for the problems that could occur.

That’s all you can do. Also, talk to everyone you know. Mention Project 2025 and it’s goals. Encourage people to register to vote. Light fires under asses. Get mad about it NOW. If Trump gets elected, America is super fucked.

I’m in a super red area, if I encourage more people to vote Trump gets more votes. But everyone around here is so unbelievably brainwashed I just gave up. I’ll vote but I can’t do much else about it.

No they aren’t. Biden is a fine president. And he’s objectively far more effective at leading a Republic than Trump.

The people who plug their ears at the notion of going 3rd party are the same dorks who got “blindsided” when Trump won in 2016.

If the Dems run Biden, I genuinely think it will be Trump. I do not want it to be Trump.

Enough of the older lemmy crowd seem to ignore the fact that the zooms have like 8-9(?) years of eligible voters who are all decently pissed about the middle east. We keep seeing record turnouts amongst the youth each/every year. So like…I just hate to see that most of the responses were of the “who tf cares what they do? they won’t vote either way” is lame as shit.

If you genuinely all think this is gunna be a slam dunk for Biden, why not run a different/younger candidate? If anybody can beat Trump, why Biden specifically? I’m only 3rd party if it’s Biden again, not a threat. I just can’t reasonably vote for him or Trump. I won’t do it.

Tell Joe to pass on the torch to somebody w/ an active pulse and I’ll take the DNC a bit more seriously… Obviously pushing to the right isn’t fucking working because the other dorks are voting R regardless.

Give me a real candidate. Anybody under the age 59 (fuck you Kamala) and you’ve got my vote.

Democrats are just using that as an excuse to avoid changing anything. It doesn’t matter to them that it’s false.

Why would the DNC, or any fucking party, switch out the incumbent? that’s like having the option for home field advantage and not choosing it. There’s not been a lot of presidents that have lost their reelection campaign (which of course happened to Trump). So now we are going to rehash the same fight that Trump lost, with himself using the exact same plan, but now under several felony investigations ranging from state and federal. Why give Trump any advantage at all by running a new candidate? So Republicans can say that “Biden was actually moderate but new mythical Democrate candidate is way worse will take away your guns, and destroy the country as you know it!” That’s how Trump won against Clinton, using the fear that she’s a more dangerous president than Trump. If you vote 3rd party, best case scenario you have no affect on the election. Worst case is your vote, and others who may have voted for Biden, effectively gave votes to Trump by voting 3rd party. The US voting system punishes you for voting 3rd party, that won’t change until our voting system is updated (which I would like)

Man if only there was a primary process that decided who the incumbent would be and that awarded the seat based on who the most attractive candidate was, and if only people who stake their credibility as allies on how the DNC forces “unattractive” candidates showed up to those primaries instead of letting them be yet another example of how the right most element wins when you don’t turn out and it’s your fault for not turning out!

What I remember is a bunch of people who didn’t turn out blaming their own deciding not to vote in the primary on “DNC meddling”

Believe it or not, the DNC doesn’t decide for you if you vote in the primaries or not.

If you spent a tenth of the energy voting that you do justifying why you shouldn’t have to for everything to just go your way anyways, Bernie would have won both times and he’d have had a house and senate with a large enough margin to get shit passed regardless of in party dissent.
