Let’s do some best case/worst case.
If we don’t execute Marcellus Williams
Best case is he’s innocent and we didn’t murder Marcellus Williams.
Worst case is he’s guilty and spends the rest of his life in prison.
If we do execute Marcellus Williams
Worst case is he’s innocent and we murdered Marcellus Williams.
Best case is he’s guilty and we murdered Marcellus Williams.
Best case is he’s guilty and we murdered Marcellus Williams.
Gotta say…
Only with execution is the murder of a criminal some kind of success or best-case scenario. When we murder too, we become just as ugly. Executions don’t seem to deter crime, don’t seem to offer any value, are costly and probably perpetuate the cycle of violence.
That’s what I mean. That’s the best possible outcome, and it still means we murdered someone.
A excerpt from the very end of the article
He knew he hadn’t done it and said that despite his experience with the criminal justice system, he thought the mistake would be discovered and corrected. ‘You still have this naivete right there that you’re not really recognizing who you’re up against.’
As someone who the system has fucked over in various ways, man, I wish that wasn’t so relatable.
The southern states always double down on stupidity
