Like am i missing out on big boy talk, gore, news etc that are adult ? Lemmy should seriously get a second filter like one that filters porn and the other that filters the rest if that is the case . Anyway what do you think ? Should news etc. be put behind nsfw ? I know i am straying far off the primary question but i am just talking casually and pulling it out of my ass as i go so thoughts ??

Edit : Is there any issue open in lemmy git for additional filters ??? If not can someone less lazy than me open one ?

Some people use NSFW tags as spoiler tags, so possibly. There’s also varying definitions of NSFW (language, news articles that might be upsetting, etc).

Agree, there needs to be more granularity with post tagging.

Best compromise I’ve found is using a Lemmy UI that will blur NSFW stuff and let you click to reveal it. You can also block porn instances / communities if you don’t want to fight through those (browsing /all on many instances is a minefield of porn lol).

Yep but i think blocking instance level is shit as we will miss out on those users comments non porn posts etc.

Nope, it doesn’t block user comments. See the linked quote info in other comments on this page

Nah, I blocked lemmynsfw awhile ago, and I still get comments from them. I’ve even seen one in this thread.

You can also just add “lemmynsfw.com” to your blocked instances. 90% of the porn posts come from there.

(one of the older non-granular breakdowns was NSFW versus NSFL)

The problem with that distinction has always been advertisers. Letting users label content for adults is one thing, letting users specifically say their content involves disturbing content seems like a tacit approval of the behavior. Most advertisers have little interest in doing business with those platforms

Which is to say that lemmy might have an opportunity there because the platform is less ad centric!

It is “no” ad centric, not less.

It works* for peertube, one of the largest (if not the largest) instance is bestgore.

*depending on your definition of “works”

On lemmy we need a third: DCAL Don’t Care About Linux

Just block the instance lemmynsfw.com and a few communities that pop up, then NSFW is usually not porn.
