There is no reason for us to expect public transit to be self-sustaining… it’s neoliberal bullshit.

Transit is a service and it should be funded in a large part by provincial taxes.

Politicians like treating transit like a cruise. It would be weird if a cruise ship was losing money.

Transit should be treated like a road. It would be weird if a road MADE money.

Why do some people always want people a thousand miles away to pay for services they dont use? This isn’t healthcare. Civic taxes not provincial.

As someone in the tech space I’d say that one potential partial solution is for Translink to use/fund FOSS Hardware as a cheaper source for replacement parts

  • this could also be a universal collaborative funding project/proposal with other provinces and states
    • maybe Louis Rossman might also be interested in this as it would tie into the Right-to-Repair movement

god I really hope we don’t lose Canada’s best transit system, this is too close to home fuck

I would like to see it too, but I don’t think there is currently in the FOSS sphere that is even remotely close to commercial availability or has the certified, turnkey type of solutions that the industry suppliers offer.

How can people run the economy if they can’t get to work?
