I feel like this game kind of came out of nowhere. We got a few small announcements and then nothing major until close to the release date, unlike the insane marketing blitz that was FF15. Maybe I was just out of the loop.
Anyways I’m curious if anyone has any thoughts or opinions about it? I love Final Fantasy games but this one seems so different. Tbf I haven’t played the demo, I’m planning on trying it tonight, but I’m curious what everyone thinks about such a major release.
I’m so hyped for this game. Yoshi-P is the only one at Square-Enix who knows what he’s doing. We’re going back to some cheesy ass faux-Shakespeare localization (yeah I like Final Fantasy XII, don’t @ me). We’re getting a classic medieval fantasy story with magic crystals and killing god, but you also get to play a motherfucking kaiju battle sometimes. Inject it directly into my veins.
Honestly the way you described it has me hyped too! It seems like a really cool premises and story wise seems like they’re going back to their roots a little. I loved FFXII so no judgement here! Also the icon battles look so intense! I think it’s a pretty good way of integrating them into and Action RPG, I liked the summons in FFXV but I felt they were a bit too static and didn’t quite fit into the combat system that well.
Aside from all the other praise people are giving it (which I completely agree with) I have to say, the ability to pause during cutscenes and access the database or whatever they call it to read about the characters involved in the cutscene is truly revolutionary.
I’ve played through the demo a couple of times now. I think this one might be special.
Final Fantasy has always been different with each one, this one is fully action based, but I think it reminds me quite a bit of 6 which is my favourite.
I’ve not been this excited for a game in years! 😀
Ooh! That has me pretty excited then! I’ve been very curious of how they were going to proceed from FFXV. It was such a weird development cycle and took forever, and then it’s release was kind of mixed. I’m hoping they have a nice polished game with a really engaging story.
Most of the time, when I play a demo, it gives me reasons not to buy the full game. This is one of the few exceptions. I can only hope now that the rest of the game ends up being as good as the demo.
The only complaint I have that I’ve experienced in the demo is the performance mode can’t keep up with 60… it seems to drop a lot all over. It’s not the worst, at least we have the option for the performance mode but really wish it could be a bit smoother. Hopefully they can improve this aspect of the game soon.
The demo has me fully sold on the game. Really love the action combat they have in this one and think it feels way better than what they had in XV. I’m intrigued by the story so far and was pleasantly surprised that the demo gives you a good amount of story with both of the modes offered. All in all I think it’s one of the best demo’s I’ve played in a while and can’t wait to get my hands on the full release.
I’ll be waiting to see what the consensus on the story is. Because I quit FF15 25 hours in after realizing I had no idea what was going on and no idea who anyone was, since the story was fragmented across multiple media.
Play the demo if you can. I think most people who have will give the consensus the story is good.
I’ve played tens of hours of 15 several times to try to like it, and I still find it so hard to care.
I understood more of what was going on and cared more about Clive and his situation after the first 15 mins of 16, and then the rest of the demo just made more intrigued.
That’s good to hear. I remember getting to a point in 15 where there’s a long cutscene of a city invasion, and I realized I didn’t know what city it was, who was invading, or why. Nor did I know what relation it had to the segment I had just played. So at that point I had enough.
