I like and admire vegans.

I probably should be vegan because I am lucky enough to have the economic privilege to support that kind of lifestyle.

But, as with many other communities centered around lifestyle topics, I would never want to participate in a vegan community. Lifestyle communities always become insular and echo-chambery, so you become a pariah if you don’t properly adhere to 100% of the community consensus behaviors.

Not just vegans, but you see it happen with fitness communities, diy/home decor, a lot of hobbies, etc.

But boy did it change the price you have to pay for it.

BY ACCESSING THIS SITE YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOUTUBE (HEREBY REFERRED TO AS THE “PLATFORM”) HAS THE ABILITY TO FORCE YOU (HEREBY REFERRED TO AS THE “SCHMUCK”) TO AGREE IN PROXY TO ANY ABSURD CONDITION THE PLATFORM DECIDES, AMENDABLE AT ANY TIME WITHOUT NOTICE, AND WITH STIPULATION THAT THE SCHMUCK MAY NEVER EVER CHALLENGE THE PLATFORM IN COURT OR EVEN LOOK AT THE PLATFORM THE WRONG WAY WHILE WALKING BY ONE ANOTHER IN THE HALL, LEST IT HURT THE PLATFORM’S FEELINGS.

I get the “haha” of this particular search getting reported on…but I think that this sort of surveillance is definitely stepping into creepy territory that will end up doing more harm than good.

There were definitely web searches I performed about topics back when I was younger that I would never want my parents to know. When you live in an oppressive household where you are taught never to think outside of the box or be anything your parents don’t want you to be, having the internet available is supposed to be a path to liberation.

If they want to set up filters that block certain results, fine. But tattling is just unethical, especially if the child does not know their search history is being monitored by their parents.

Better that than to hurt the feelings of someone who cares a whole lot about people wearing masks.

Because even though they feel the need to seek physical intimacy from someone else, they still want the stability and safety a relationship brings.

Switching away from Chrome is something that is always worth repeating, but just FYI this happened last September and isn’t “new”. If you’re on Chrome and are only just now realizing this, it’s been your reality for the last 5 months.
