Trump, the same Trump that killed boarder legislation because he didn’t want to give biden a win?
Not him, no, never.
Via user kingshrubb: Apparently she retracted her comments https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/22/world/middleeast/trump-netanyahu-cease-fire-talks-israel-woodruff-pbs.html
I’m gonna need more than somebody’s social media post on this.
Edit: Because right now it’s “somebody’s” social media post with an unsourced and undated quote from “someone” referring to “reporting,” with a picture of a lady that has a PBS/NewsHour watermark. This is exactly the kind of thing you should be skeptical of in the absence of better confirmation, all up and down that ladder of vagueness.
You right, ill change my title.
Edit: Here’s the original discussion w/ timestamp. I want to say, I’ve been avoiding xwitter for so long I really hate linking it right now.
Here’s a couple links if anyone wants to venture down this rabbit hole
https://www.axios.com/2024/08/15/trump-netanyahu-gaza-hostage-ceasefire-deal-call
https://www.reuters.com/world/netanyahu-denies-report-he-spoke-trump-about-gaza-talks-2024-08-15/
Edit2:
Possible replacement for that twitter link, here’s an article discussing Woodruff’s comments - https://web.archive.org/web/20240820213405/https://newrepublic.com/post/185076/donald-trump-scheme-beat-kamala-harris-benjamin-netanyahu-ceasefire
The rueters one doesn’t indicate anything about Trump talking to Bibi and discouraging him from setting up a peace deal.
- In his meeting with Netanyahu at Mar-a-Lago a day after the Fox News interview, Trump said the situation with the hostages is very tough and that they have to be returned immediately.
Yeah. The hostage situation is “very tough”. They’re not gonna ‘fix’ that for him its just right out there like that’s how leaders talk. As if. And, agreed, he couldn’t lead a Mongol horde out of a wet paper bag.
Agreed. The “lady” is Judy Woodruff, PBS anchor and correspondent since it was the MacNeill-Lehrer News Hour, so it would greatly surprise me if she didn’t have some credible evidence behind “the reporting is”.
But I missed that moment last night, so I’d want to be sure she said it.
Complete tangent but how did you edit your comment without causing an edit mark to appear on it?
I edited it within a very short time after posting it. There’s some kind of “grace period” (at least on fedia.io), but I don’t know exactly what it is.
Reddit had a 2-3 min window to edit without it being marked as such; I haven’t noticed that on lemmy.world (dunno if it matters instance to instance).
😂You really think Judy Woodruff is gonna put her reputation on the line by spreading BS? Good lord…
Edit: Oof, turns out she apologized and got the story wrong.
I don’t see any indication that she’s related to this. Anyone can put a picture of anyone near some text, and claim that they are quoting that person.
Google it. It’s on her Twitter account. She said it but she recently apologized and said she got it wrong.
So like the alleged deal between the Reagan campaign and Iran during the hostage crisis to get elected and oust Carter?
Oh no, you’re thinking of Iran-Contra, the other treasonous act that Reagan committed involving Iran. OP is talking about the rumored deal Reagan made with Iran wherein Iran would not release the American hostages until after the 1980 election. Coincidentally, the hostages were released on January 20th, 1981, the day Reagan was sworn in.
Sidenote, has anyone seen the Netflix documentary about the octopus murders? I think the proof that Reagan made that deal is at the heart of that conspiracy.
Edit: I’ve just come across this in another thread. It seems the hostage deal between Reagan and Iran did, in fact, happen. https://www.esquire.com/news-politics/politics/a43368900/reagan-iran-hostages/
I highly recommend watching American Conspiracy on Netflix. The way the CIA and government actually operates is pretty disturbing, but the subject of the documentary is how the justice department stole a software program from a private company and resold it to foreign governments so that it could raise funds to repay Earl Brian, who had provided $40 million to Iran to hold the hostages until after the election.
It is crazy to me that all of the “Genocide Joe” crowd don’t see that Netanyahu wants Trump to win so he can show the world what genocide actually looks like.
Well, not that crazy, considering a good portion of them are propagandists.
I’ve noticed a considerable lack of the usual suspects from that particular crowd in this thread.
Where is our little rogues gallery right now? Every single thread for every little detail any Dem does, they are reliably in the comments screeching. “How wretched is this miserable party to stoop so low, how despicable their voters!” But I haven’t seen any of them in this thread.
Isn’t him doing that illegal? Like very illegal?
Do you think either Trump or Netanyahu gives a single shit about what’s legal?
look, he’s doing this in the context of his presidential duties, this makes it completely legal, duh, fucking serfs getting uppity. ~~SCOTUS
SCOTUS truly would decide that actions during an election year are presidential duties, unless they are impeachable and an impeachment is successful, in which case they were private citizen stuff all along.
I wish people would stop saying “but” and maybe just like call it in? Stage a protest? Demand that he be brought up for charges?
Like if it’s a crime and he doesn’t have a defense, uhh… like what’s the holdup? The “Teflon Don” from your history books was eventually convicted, even after it seemed his ability to escape consequences was limitless.
And Democrats will just allow the Republican to get away with treason ‘for the good of the country’, even though that’s how we got into this mess. If Nixon actually went to jail, this whole era of Republican dirty tricks and corruption would’ve never happened.
