I wish there were craft sodas so that everyone would call Coke and Pepsi horse piss.

There are certainly fancier brands, like Jones.

In addition to Jones and Virgil as others have said we have Maine Root, Sprechers, Dublin and others. Most grocery stores in the US at least will have a small section of various root beers and other craft sodas. Stores like whole foods or other fancy type places will usually have more of a selection. World market has a ton as well I believe.

At least where I live there are a bunch of small soda brands at the grocery store make pepsi and coke seem like piss water.

Craft beer is like someone took the worst part of beer and made it the only part. I’m not saying Budweiser is good but it’s better than any craft shit I’ve ever had

Coming from Belgium, it’s an entirely different experience here.

We’ve theorised that in the US, they’re just businesses that buy an installation with recipes included and have very little knowledge of how brewing actually works.

Do you mean for the mass produced shit lagers? There is a lot of science that goes into making those as bland as possible.

For craft brews, quite a few brew masters absolutely love beer and brewing and study a myriad of brewing techniques from around the world.

Craft beer is an extremely wide range of types. What do you consider the worst part of beer? Bitterness? Sweetness? Thickness? There are tons of different flavors along the thousands upon thousands of beers in the world.

Bud Lite is brewed to be as flavorless as possible. It’s not bad but I don’t think anyone would argue that it is great either. It is meant to be as acceptable as possible by the largest amount of people.

Beer, overall, may not be your thing. That’s fine. But tons of beers have a lot to offer from a flavor complexity standpoint.

Horse piss has body and flavor and useful ammonia and phosphorus content. Do not denigrate it by comparing it to fucking Bud Light.

Here’s my take: let people like what they like. Yeah, I don’t like Budweiser. So what? I know a lot of people that hate extra peaty malt, and while I disagree, they’re allowed to just not like Scottish malt whiskey.

Laphroaig for the win… Was in Oban a few weeks back for a holiday and got a bottle of Kilchomain from the shop across the road from the distillery (no way was I paying the distillery prices - £75 for a 10 year?). Really enjoying it, quite liking the salty overtones.

I think that Oban had a soapy taste for me that I didn’t like. Laphroaig used to be my go-to, since I’m poor, but it’s gotten steadily more expensive for even the cheapest interations. Now I mostly drink Costco’s Kirkland blended, or bourbon. :/

Hey, you’ve found what’s good for you :) I did sample the Oban and it was nice, but not at the price they were hawking it at. My current overall favourite is probably a tossup between the Laphroaig Cairdeas I got in 2017 (I think? I’m a bit fuzzy) and a 12-year non-chill-filtered Aberlour… which are such different taste profiles as to be practically incomparable :D Everyone has different tastes, so… going back to the thread starter, let’s celebrate different tastes.

I don’t like Bud Light. I have never liked Bud Light. It’s been over twenty years since I’ve drunk a Bud Light.

However, I also believe there is a time and place to consume crappy American adjunct lager. Generally daytime outdoor activities.

I don’t understand the culture of disparaging people for the beer they drink. I especially don’t understand something along the line of a Coors Light drinker expressing existential superiority over a Bud Light drinker.

As to the craft drinkers, I see that as an entirely different market that should keep to itself. It’s like Michelin star diners disparaging people who can only afford to occasionally eat at the local greasy spoon.

You don’t understand dissing on others for stupid things?? But that’s American tradition! Cannot have a man to look down on if there’s nothing to be hyper-judgemental about.

Yup, light beers are great for college parties and outdoor drinking games. Cheap and you can drink literally all day without geting too drunk or bloated which is kind of the point of the product. Witbeers, lagers, etc are for when you actually want to get drunk off of a few beers and enjoy the taste. I think that anyone who genuinely compares the two have never actually been invited to a party where they serve alcohol or they just want to feel smugly superior about something and chose beer consumption of all things haha
